Deeczw

hey! What do you mean by up the hill? We're currently looking to buy a house and most of the properties we're finding are between Comstock and Westcott, around Euclid and Clarendon. Is that ok? What's scary about not living up the hill? I assumed all the areas around a major university would be fine! Obviously, not the newest or nicest housing, but at least safe. no?

Re: Deeczw

  • I'm pretty sure she meant as far as the snow, you want to be on top of the hill instead of driving up and down it in the snow and ice.  I don't know the area around SU well enough to say what streets are where though.

  • Thanks. We've never been there before and didn't even know there was a big hill to consider! I'll have to find a better map.
  • The only thing I do know about the SU area is that like any college there are a ton of houses that are rented out to college kids, so it can be completely hit or miss with your neighbors.  Are you going for house hunting or just buying blind?  If you are going hopefully you end up being there on a nice weekend when people would be outside then you could get a better idea of the type of neighbors you would have.

  • My husband will be going for a few days ahead of time, but hopefully we'll have a good list of places to look at before he gets there. The rental market really sucks there for families. We're not interested in sharing a house with a bunch of single college students! So we're hoping to find a decent single family home to buy and then rent out when we leave. We'll only be there for 16 months, so we don't have to be too picky.
  • I just know that walking back from the Dome toward 81 can be sketchy.  DH is from Syracuse, and he said to live up the hill for a better area.  I'm not super familiar, with the streets, but I'm sure once you are there it will be obvious if it is a nice area or not!
  • great, thank you!
