If I got offered a job, and I'm happy with the salary, do I still negotiate? I mean, are they expecting me to do this now? Is it "customary" to do so, or would I just be creating unnecessary waves?

It really depends. I knew at the last job that I interviewed with that negotiations weren't really going to work. They made it clear in a few things they stated. Also, they hired me and told me outright they were paying me more than they had wanted to pay anyone because they thought I was worth it. They also said after 60 days I was getting a substantial raise.
I go with my gut on these things.
Prior to this, a few other places I interviewed, just by looking around it was clear they weren't going to pay me more.

PS. You ARE NOT "creating waves" by any means. That question alone is a big reason why women don't negotiate: they are afraid of how others will see them (negatively) which IMO is unreasonable.
And if you are happy with the salary, ask for more paid time off. Who doesn't want more no matter how much you have? But I would still ask for more salary (even if only a little).
