Would this make sense to you? Updated, now what do you think?

Tman has our phone numbers memorized, but I found that when he is put on the spot, he gets mixed up.  When we go somewhere crowded, we usually give him a whistle and write our phone number on his arm in sharpie.  Although this has worked so far, I would like to stop writing on his arm.  It either sweats off in the summer or is super hard to get off in the bath.

So, I'm buying him dog tags to wear when we go somewhere crowded.  They are boy-ish, so he won't feel like he's wearing a necklace, and he would NEVER in a trillion years wear one of those ID bracelets (as he thinks bracelets are for girls).

The dog tags only allow a certain number of characters per line, so I am having to cut out some of what I want to put.

Would this make sense to you if you saw:

Line 1:  First and Last Name

Line 2:  Phone Number

Line 3:  Phone Number

Line 4:  No allergies or

Line 5:  health issues

Obviously the name and numbers are okay, but what I'd like to say is that he has no known drug allergies or health issues (in case medical care needs to be given for whatever reason), but the character limit won't let me.

  • honestly, I wouldn't worry about the no allergies/drug issues. Instead, I'd maybe put his doctor's number, or a different emergency contact.
  • NKDA = no drug allergies

Dont worry about putting no medical conditions

  • i wouldn't put his name on there..he knows his name. and if he lost it, then there could be other issues..maybe?

i think "these days" it's really important to have info about allergies. there was a period in time when the neighbor kids came to me and told me they were hungry- (bad parenting, i ended up calling the police several times). i was terrified of feeding them though, because of allergies. i didn't want to be held responsible for getting them super sick.

ETA: yes, the last two lines make sense.

  • If you want an alternative to the necklace look up road ID bracelets... The are ID tags for athletes. There are all kinds of types and styles. You might find something you like better.

  • i think it makes complete sense.
BabyFruit Ticker BabyFetus Ticker we're having twins!
  • does anyone else find the sharpie thing hilarious?!  :P  I was totally laughing, but it makes sense, I would never have thought of that.

I think it all makes sense although I wouldn't think the food allergy thing is important unless they do have allergies (if a kid has parents who care enough to buy them a tag, I would assume they would put the allergy on there - so no mention of it to me would = no allergy, but I don't know).

    I would put

    You and hubby names

    Phone numbers

    Dr number

    Nkda

  • Would it make sense to add his blood type?
  • I'm not concerned about food.  If he is able to eat, that part of it won't be an issue.

I am concerned that if he needed medical care for some reason and we were unable to be reached, that they would know that he has no drug allergies.  I will use the NKDA since that seems to be a well known acronym.  I didn't know about that.

    What about:

Line 1:  His name (I know this probably isn't necessary, but I think he'd like it)

    Line 2:  My phone number

    Line 3:  James's phone number

    Line 4:  NKDA Dr. Name

    Line 5:  Dr. Phone number

UW - to be honest, I don't even know Tman's blood type.  Isn't that awful?  Thankfully, it's never come up.   Heck, I don't even know my own blood type.

I think this makes sense.  Blood type probably doesn't matter because in an emergency situation they just give people O until they confirm what the type is (I doubt they would trust a necklace because people could remember it wrong and have incorrect info on there etc).

  • I like your revised version. If i found a lost kid, i would want to know if they had any health issues

Also i heard about temp tattoos parents can make for exactly that reason, have u heard about them?

I was going to mention this.  My BFF does this for her girls when they go on flights or to crowded places like Disneyland.  The tattoos are about the size of a band aid.

I thought of another question that medical people or someone who finds him might ask, What is your mom's/dad's name?"  some kids don't know that.  I forget how old Tman is.

DH and I found a little girl at Fred Meyer once and thankfully she knew her mom's name and could tell us what color shirt her mom was wearing.  The little girl stayed pretty calm.  I don't think she knew she was lost.  We just noticed that there was no parent or sibling around this little 2 or 3 year old.  Scary!  Thankfully an employee came over and was able to help.
