In a nutshell, Ted realizes that Robin will never love him. Marshall then suggests to Robin that she move out of Ted's apartment because otherwise Ted will never get over her.
Also revealed in the opening scene that after this latest thing with Robin, Ted doesn't tell another woman that he loves her until The Mother. So presumably there won't be any more serious relationships for him until she comes along.
This episode was a lot better than most of the recent ones.

Did they say that the wedding would definitely be held at the end of this season? I know the wedding scenes we've seen so far have been flash-forwards but I missed any mention they gave of a particular timeframe.
Unless it's like the most recent season finale, where Ted imploded the building and Lily got pregnant, and they just skipped the whole summer and said that the season finale took place in September.

Now that you mention it, I think I do remember reading something that said that Barney's bride will be revealed in this season's finale.
I'm not sure if the season finale will actually be the wedding itself, though, because it could be another flash-forward peek at a Season 8 wedding just to show us who she is. If the wedding is this season's finale then Barney has three months from now to decide he wants to get married, and actually plan a wedding.
Although I guess he could propose sometime in May and they could jump forward to September in the season finale, like they did in last season's finale. And then just pick up where they left off when Season 8 starts. That's not a lot of time to get to know Quinn and decide he wants to marry her (unless he gets her pregnant and wants to "do the right thing" by marrying her?), but he's already known Robin for a long time so it's possible they could get engaged and married within a few months.
It's probably going to come down to a choice between Quinn and Robin, since Barney asked Ted if he picked "the right tie" (aka woman) for his wedding. With the way Ted answered confidentally that he made the right decision, I'm going to bet that Barney marries Robin.
I'm undecided as to whether I want Ted to meet The Mother in the series finale or earlier. On the one hand it'd be nice to meet her earlier so they can date for all of Season 8 and we can see what makes her so awesome ... but on the other hand what if she sucks and the audience doesn't like her? Because of badly written storylines, a bad actress is cast, or she and the guy who plays Ted just don't have any chemistry. Hopefully they do a really good job casting her. And then there's still the question of whether it'll be an unknown actress or someone fairly well-known (like how they brought in Rachel Bilson as the mother's roommate).
I don't have a source right now - in a hurry - but what they said at the end of last year was that this season finale will reveal Barney's wife-to-be, and then next season will be the build up to the wedding. Presumably, we won't meet the Mother until next season's finale (or in an episode or two prior). From what I understand, it will be a flashforward.
The reason they are doing this, they said, is because getting a two year renewel meant they were really able to build up suspense and flesh out storylines.
Now all the question is is who is the bride? Robin? The stripper? Mona? B.Spears (yeah right)? Some other person that we won't even be introduced to until that episode? Personally, my money is on Robin.
Yeah, I was kind of figuring that the wedding wouldn't be anytime soon because in the wedding flash-forwards Lily had no belly and had gotten back into shape.
I'm also betting that it's Robin.
