I think I am going to train for a marathon

I've been contemplating it for a bit now. My running coach is down with helping train me, I know another runner who would also run with us. My coach has done 54 marathons and trained thousands to run. Disney has it's 20th anniversary marathon in Jan so I have plenty of time and I can train during the cooler months. The big thing is that I talked to dh about it last night and he is supportive of the idea and knows it would be more running time to for and more dad time for him. I told him I wouldn't/couldn't do it without him being on board.

Re: I think I am going to train for a marathon

  • I also want to add that it's been less than a year since I started c25k. I just did my first half, and I'm signed up for another in a few months. I'm also planning to do tough mudder in December. Awhile ago I would have though this idea was crazy. But there is something I really like about distance running and pushing myself to go further than before.

  • Do it! I ran my marathon within a year of my first triathlon, it wasn't so bad.  I'm sure your coach will set you up with a plan, but if not, I did the runner's world beginner plan and it only had me running 3-4 days a week, so I could still have a life.
  • Go for it! I am contemplating it too, and it would be about a year from when I picked up running again.

  • Definitely go for it!  And Disney is a great first marathon, it was mine in 2009!   I am planning on doing the goofy in January so I will be there with you!
  • DO IT!!!!

Disney is a great first marathon--flat, friendly, and full of entertainment to make the time to pass. I did it this past January and am hooked :-)
