My DH and I are getting ready to look for another rental property to move into. Currently were in a nice 2 bdr at $600 but we want to cut costs, dramatically so we can pay off debt and start saving.
I know the houses were looking at might be kind of gross to start with ( rent on some of them is only $370/month so I'm not expecting anything great) plus they are in kind of not so nice parts of town. So, I was wondering if someone could direct me to checklist for EXTREMELY DETAILED disinfecting/cleaning or had any good tips on cleaning the hell out of these dumps?
Thanks!
Re: Cleaning a rental
The first house we moved into when we got married was decent, but some young bachelor had been living there for a couple of years, and the landlord was supposed to clean but when we moved in, it was nasty.
For the living room, I windexed every glass surface, like the windows and the glass door. Take down the blinds (if they have them) and soak them in the bathtub with some vinegar or bleach. Steam the carpets if it has carpet; if it's hardwood or laminate, bleach them. Scrub the baseboards too. Then rub them with a dryer sheet to reduce the chance of them getting dusty. Clean the air vents and replace the filter in the unit.
The kitchen. Uggghh the kitchen. I had to vacuum out the cabinets to get rid of trash. Then I wiped them down with a hot wet rag, then again with cleaning solution, like 409 (or bleach, haha). Same for the countertops and all the drawers. I bought cheap liner from the Dollar Tree to line the cabinets and drawers. The stove needs to be cleaned, but I can't remember the brand I buy. It has an orange top and smells foul but it's great.
For the bathroom, I used about a whole can of Clorox wipes. I put on some rubber gloves and went to town scrubbing the toilet, the sink, the countertop, and the sides of the bathtub. Even the tops of the bathtub where it meets the wall and the shower rail.
I hope that helps! It's all I can remember off the top of my head.
