BWLO: WCM

Just wanted to run this by the other Moms here.  I had Benjamin at the ped on Thursday because he was having some eating issues.....as in NOT eating.  Anyway, the ped said since he will be 10 months on Monday, we can start transitioning him to WCM now.  He didn't really give a reason, but did comment that BM/formula would still be better for him.  Our ped is definitely relaxed about introducing foods.  The only thing B hasn't had are foods that can be choking hazards (whole nuts, raisins, etc.) and honey.  He has had whole eggs, peanut butter, etc.

So what do you think of this WCM thing?  Odd?  I figure if we start slowly, it can't hurt.  Or offering it to him during snack times.

  • I'm slow. What does WCM stand for? :-)

  • Whole cow milk? We give Raegan small amounts in a sippy during snack times and even meals. It's been the only way she will take a sippy.

    Whole Cow's Milk

  • It provides older babies/toddlers with good fats, calcium, protein and a few other things that promote good health and growth. From what I understand, it's best to introduce it after a year to two years, and not before because while it contains some good things, milk also lacks vitamins and minerals provided by breast/formula.

  • Natrel Baboo could be an option for transition, it's new but if it gains good reviews, I'll be trying it out with my youngest after he turns a year.
  • We started diluting at 11.5 months. He's now on milk, mostly whole but sometimes 2%. He doesn't drink nearly as much milk as he did formula. We are lucky to get 5-10oz in him. He gets another 10oz or so of water/juice.
  • If he's not eating seems strange to me that he's suggest milk - with the caveat that BM/Formula is better.  Just seems like what is the milk supposed to accomplish?  If it were me, what I'd do kind of depends on what the Doc felt the milk would do.
  • We started introducing WCM at 11 months and were off formula a week before the twins' birthday (I refused to buy another 2 cans for that week).  My only thinking for the doctor suggesting WCM over formula is that the WCM might not fill him up as much and encourage him to eat more??
