The trip I'm taking with my parents is kind of an abbreviated version, since Oslo is so far from the west coast. It was the only way I could get my silly parents to go see the "real" fjords while they were visiting!

However, I did do a full Norwegian coastal cruise back in 2008. It was gorgeous! We had meant to do the Hurtigruten coastal ferry, which is more local ferry than proper cruise ship, but we ended up finding a good deal that let us do two weeks on the QE2 for about the same as 6 days on the ferry! The ferry is Norwegian-style expensive! Haha! And in the end, I liked the traditional cruise better, because we could still sail through the famous fjords (I consider Geiranger a must-see) and we got full days in the bigger cities (the ferry just stops for a few hours).

I always recommend on CruiseCritic that a Norwegian fjord cruise should include either Fl?m or Geiranger if not both, because they are the iconic fjord scenery. I prefer Geiranger, but the N?r?yfjord near Fl?m is also UNESCO-listed (though most ships don't actually sail through that part). Most cruises fall into two categories: fjord-focused or the full coast. The fjords are centered around the southern area, especially around Geiranger (?lesund, Olden, etc) but many cruises sail farther north to North Cape or even Svalbard. The scenery farther north is very different, and I actually preferred this for the variety. The fjords are beautiful, but after too much of them, I feel like they lose some of the "wow" factor, because it's just too much to keep being overwhelmed. Our cruise also visited Lofoten Islands, and the Norwegians consider it one of the most beautiful places in Norway (in the land of fjords, that's saying something), and I thought Svalbard was incredibly unique (plus it was cool to go farther north than just about everyone I know)!

There are some photos from the trip in my bio (but my website is currently having problems that I can't fix until I get home). Feel free to ask any questions! :)
