Any former cheerleaders or dancers?
I am taking over as coach for both the cheer and dance teams at my school next year. I'm trying to get as organized as possible. I'm interested in hearing ideas, suggestions, etc. from everyone since my experience is only limited to my own experience as a dance team member. Thanks, ladies!
Re: Any former cheerleaders or dancers?
Here is what I thought of so far:
One thing we used to do which I thought was great, was for tryouts (or even after) we would break into groups of 4 of 5 and think up our own original sideline cheer. Then we'd get to together and share them. This way you have new stuff and don't have to do all the work yourself.
If you perform during halftime, I'd suggest in the beginning working on a cute two minute or so dance to perform while your competition routine is getting ready. This way you have something to show and don't have to be worried about the actual routine and that it may not be done yet.
I would def. keep a binder of sideline formations, all dance formations after transitions, sideline titles.
The phone tree is great as well! Once you pick captains you can create a phone tree. So if you need to get a hold of everyone for something, you call the captains and the captains call their selected people.
If you need to work on cheers a great way to work on just the words and their dynamics is to get into one big circle and yell them out. This way everyone can see and hear and focus on just the words.
I'm sure there's a lot more lol - so feel free to ask!
