Baseboards?

I haven't posted here before so first of all, Hi! =]

We just moved in to a new apartment and the maid service that was hired did little more than just sweep the floors. I've been able to get most everything clean, but the baseboards haven't been cleaned in so long that I think somehow the dirt may be stained on them. Anyone have any suggestions for cleaners that will get them clean?

I just used soapy water and a good scrubby Scotch sponge because it sounds like ours are pretty much the same as yours. It helped a little, but not a whole lot. You might want to try a stronger cleaner than dish soap, though I don't know what's safe for paint and wood and hard scrubbing. We are going to repaint our soon--at least the stuff in the kitchen--so I didn't worry about it too much.

I used a grout scrub brush for the cracks on the molding and that seemed to help a little too.

Thanks guys! We are planning on re-painting ours too, but I'm having a party here tonight and in the back of my head I hear my chastising me about them already!

If you can find Cosmo in your local supermarket you can try cleaning with that. I clean most everything white with it and it is amazing. Or there is a cleaning spray at the Dollar Store called Awesome and that works like a charm too.

Are the baseboards white? Our white baseboards have just yellowed and it is impossible to get them looking totally clean. time to repaint.

Magic erasers are amazing for just about any cleaning nightmare! They do wonders for removing water-spots on glasses and silverware. Also a huge fan of "Awesome", the best cleaning product I've ever found and it only costs $1.00!! Make sure you have good ventilation though, or open windowns, its pretty powerful stuff, have even pre-treated laundry with it.

Are they painted baseboards, or stained wood? If they are painted, good old Mr. Clean and hot water should do the trick. If they are stained wood, try Murphy's Oil Soap. Good luck!

Lysol concentrate diluted with some water and grab a cloth rag and wipe away.. lysol has proven to me to be pretty good and is fairly harmless on the walls I have had in various homes and apartments.
