Family friendly Places in Dominican Republic...

We are looking for a family friendly resort in Dominican.  We don't know much so if you can even suggest a specific area of the D.R. We can research resorts!  Thanks

Re: Family friendly Places in Dominican Republic...

  • I went to Punta Cana 6+ years ago to an adults only all-inclusive.

Weather, area, and beach were great.  The bugs were bad at night, but the resort sprayed for them each night.

We are looking into a family resort for this summer too.  Have you looked into any (could be any area)?

  • I lived in the DR as a single, white female, so my perspectives on what might be considered family-friendly could be skewed, but I would suggest looking for a family-friendly AI...  I stayed in a really simple, but nice AI hotel (small pool, 3 good meals, beach access) that often had a few families on the northern coast in Sosua (I think the name of the hotel was Sosua by the Sea), near Puerto Plata.  Most guests were European, I think most US travelers go to Punta Cana/surrounding areas.  I also stayed at a few hotels in Cabarete, none that had their own beach, just a shared/public beach (although there are AIs there too).  The international travelers were mostly there for the kite-surfing and wind-sailing (as far as I could tell, without children).  There were more restaurants/stores to explore in Cabarete than at the AI in Sosua, but the aggressive vendors (and men) at the public beach were not a welcome part of my relaxation plan.  I think with children you'd probably not have the same issues I did...  but based on my experiences, if I were going back with my (currently non-existent) children, I'd go back to Sosua or find a family-friendly AI.
