7 days until a new room...

I have hired a professional organizer (a lot cheaper than I thought it would be) to help me organize my craft room.  B/c of physical limits I cannot lift or twist which makes organizing difficult. On top of that I have always had panic attacks when trying to organize. As silly as it sounds it is true. Right now I can barely go into the room to get something.  I can't wait to use the space.  My mom built me amazing tables for lots of space and it will be heaven.

Here are few pictures of the embarrassing mess I have created.  It was never organized and got worst when I had a back brace and just pulled piles over to get what I wanted.  Bad idea! Can't wait to share the after pictures!

  • Yea for hiring an organizer!  You photos don't show up though. Sad

I have been in a pre organizing frenzy (getting labels and bins ready, and starting some of the sorting of small stuff)  and am kind of worried about doing something to my back next week when I really tackle my studio.

  • Wonderful!  Now, the trick is to keep it organized and straightened up!  at least that is my problem!

  • Yes. She gives you a before and after photo so you stay motivated, and since I am spending money I am hoping that will help.

I will post pictures again after it is done sorry they don't show up.

I think the trick to keeping it organized and straightened up is to have it organized in a way that is intuitive to the user....even if it isn't the prettiest way or the way that makes sense to other people.  I subscribe to the 'if you set your keys in the same place when you come home every day, then that is where they belong' school of organizing.  Julie Morgenstern is a genius, and the few things that I have organized using her methods have stayed organized.

My business partner and I have different ideas about organizing and especially what to do with everything pertaining to whatever we are working on at the time.  She likes to have everything picked up and tidy, which is nice, but she keeps putting away things before we are finished with them.  I like to have somewhere to keep everything (a bin or on a counter out of the way) for easy access, until the job is finished.  She drives me crazy and vice versa.lol

  • TheBridesMom: I am like you. I have always referred to myself as "an organized mess."

  • Definitely sounds exciting!  When is the pro organizer coming and doing his/her magic?

As for me, I'd be scared of one.  I've watched too much of Peter Walsh where he makes people get rid of stuff because he convinces them that they'll never finish the craft project if they haven't done it yet.  That's like destroying my dreams!
