ID for 2 y.o. on Southwest

Hi, we're taking DD to Disney and flying Southwest.  She has her own ticket.  What type of ID should I bring for her?  I've heard various things, and I will check with the airline, but I wanted to see what you ladies have experienced.

Re: ID for 2 y.o. on Southwest

  • I don't believe one is required if both parents are going but I always bring along the birth certificates just in case, never been asked for anything though.
  • My not-quite-2 year old daughter just traveled a few weeks ago on her own ticket, and no one asked for anything.

I think Southwest is more adamant about the birth certificate prior to 2 to verify that they aren't supposed to be on their own ticket.

  • I carry my kids' passports, but for domestic flights I'm not usually asked for them. But they are easier to carry than the birth certificates.  Most of the time when they've been on their own tickets I don't need to show anything for them, just my own ID.

  • Children under 16 (and it may even be 18, I can't remember) are not required to have any form of id when traveling domestically on their own ticket.
