MBA in Accounting...online?
I am considering going back to school to obtain a degree in Accounting. I have worked in the banking industry for about 3 years and I would like to move to the auditing field. In order to do so, I need to get a CPA license; for which I would need to go back to school. If I do, I figured my best option would be to get a MBA in Accounting; however; due to my need to work-full time, I would need to attain an online school....do you have any ideas of GOOD online schools offering MBAs in Accounting? Any personal experiences that you would like to share with me? Are you a CPA/Auditor/Accountant?? Could you give me some tips about the profession? Thanks!

Check RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology). It's a top notch education and I think they started doing online MBAs.
This. You may also be able to do some classes online in addition to evening and/or weekend classes.
Are you already working in audit? In order to obtain eligibility to see for the CPA you need specific hours of actual audit experience.
My husband worked in Big 4 audit after college and well from January to April his life sucked. He traveled regularly and worked very late through busy season. It obviously only lasted so long but the life style isn't for everyone.
He now works as an in house financial analyst for a major medical device company and has a MUCH BETTER life/work balance. He obtained the appropriate hours to sit for the CPA but chose not sit at the time. Now a few years out, he might decide to sit but isn't 100% decided on this. (His hours carry over)
I have heard this alot. Also, the competition is very high due to the job market and you'll be competing with people who attended the same classes in the classroom which seems to be looked upon better.
I agree with this completely. It will likely help you look a little more competitive too since so many places do not like hiring those with online only degrees.
I'm a CPA. I worked in public accounting for 9 years before moving to a position in industry. Public accounting - whether audit or tax - involves very long hours for months on end. Auditors often travel frequently (our external auditors were here in our office (from out of town) for a month for year-end work; they will return for 2 weeks each quarter for interim work). Hiring is competitive, and staff people often burn out in a few years because there is no work/life balance at all.
As for the MBA, I got mine taking night classes at the local university. I took one class online, but didn't care for the format - I felt like I was missing something. Some people do a combination of online and classroom - certain classes lend themselves better to online study than others. I'm not a big fan of the online-only degree, but I don't know if potential employers would hold that against you. I believe all states have enacted the 150-hour requirement for CPA licensure, so you need more than a Bachelor's degree to sit for the exam.
