Travel insurance question

Hello.  FI and I are planning a destination wedding in Maui for this Sept.  We're getting ready to book our flights and I'm wondering if it's worth getting travel insurance?  I want to be covered in case for whatever reason we change our plans, dates, etc.  Do you purchase travel insurance when you book trips and where do you get it from?  TIA.

check what the airline/hotel/wedding cancellation and rebooking rules are and then see if it's worth it.

Friday, December 28 2012. The day I had emergency appendix surgery in Mexico and quit smoking. Proof that everything has a good side!! DH and I are happily child-free!! No due date or toddler tickers here!! my read shelf:

  • Check with your credit card that you used to book your trip. You may have some sort of trip insurance already.
  • I strongly urge travel insurance coming from a person who deals with trips like this all the time.  You never know when a storm will affect your resort or a family emergency.  Those destination wedding contracts are strict you will not get out of it without paying.  Check www.insuremytrip.com

It will let you cross compare prices.

My personal favorite is TravelEx.  I am a travel agent and I deal with this stuff all

    the time.

  • Couldn't agree more with Holly. Get something. Your credit card may offer coverage, but ask and read carefully. If it's secondary coverage, you'll also want something else. Travel insurance is like health or car insurance--you hope you never need it, but if you do, you're glad to have it. My favorite is Access America. But check insuremytrip.com.
