So, we're trying to sort out our itinerary for Amsterdam and visiting the Anne Frank Haus is one of the activities we're considering. While it would be a very powerful and moving experience, I can't help but think it would be a huge bummer! I always assumed that we'd visit but now that it is coming time to buy tickets I have reservations about it. We're also visiting the D-Day beaches were my grandfather fought which I know will also be a very emotional experience but at the same time my grandfather survived and Anne Frank did not. I know this is our decision to make but I'd like to hear other opinions.
Re: Anne Frank Haus- WDYT?
I went to it and it was on my short list of things to do while I was there. Sure it's a little somber, but I followed that up with a tour of the Heineken brewery and was just fine after that.
I really enjoyed it, personally.

including a trip to the juice/coffee bar!!
Liz, I didn't hit up the purse museum but I did go to the Sex Museum. They had a nice little tribute section to Marilyn Monroe and all!
I would definitely still go, it's such an important part of history. Yes, it's a sad part of history, but important none the less. I think you would probably regret it if you didn't go.
I was hesitant to go to Pearl Harbor for the same reasons, but I'm so glad that we did it.
That or the coffee shop after sounds like a great idea!
I need to do more research on this Sex Museum you speak of... when I get off of work, of course.
An American Girl's Travels
I've never been, but when I go to Amsterdam someday this is definitely on my list. I say do it! It's a big part of history and will be different from other sights you see.
We're going to the Auschwitz-Birkeneau concentration camp on our Europe trip this spring. I'm a little nervous because it's so depressing, but I'm also looking forward to it...I think it will be it will be one of the highlights of our trip feeling so connected to the tragedies those people went experienced.
My grandfather was a POW and in a concentration camp in Germany during WWII. We had considered visiting that sight as well, but from what I read there's nothing left. That will be really neat visiting where your grandfather fought. Have fun on your trip!
