Or a skirt/shirt combo?
Dresses are always so tricky for me, since (like imoan, fist bump) I am two different sizes up top and on the bottom. Currently an XL-ish on the top, and around a size 20 on the bottom. Really curvy, and small bewbs. So maybe a skirt would be better.
I have two "events" coming up, and none of my dresses fit me. One event is a formal-ish banquet this weekend, another is a nice dinner out in Vegas. Vegas is not really an event, but whatever.
I don't have time to ship a dress/skirt or travel somewhere to find it, so I'm looking at places around town. Which are few. Lane Bryant, Nordstroms, Sears. I'll post links of items I find, but if you don't feel like working today, can you help?
And now that you mention it, I'll need shoes, too. Crap.
Re: Can you ladies help me find a dress?
What about something like this for the Vegas dinner? The top and bottom are seperate so perhaps you can tailor or get in different sizes? Black and silver is kind of my thing... but I can definitely see it not being your style.

Sorry about the long link. Far too lazy to go back and change it.
How formal are you talking?
I'm not a huge fan of chiffon, but I like the ruffle on this:

I LIKE COLOR!

I like drapey tops because they tend to help accentuate what little boobage I do have:

You could also check target for a cute top/cardigan combo, they usually have a decent selection of that stuff. Maybe even a decent skirt. I didn't like much off of the Macys/Nordstrom/Sears websites.
Do you have aTJ Maxx or Marshall's near you? I've had some decent luck finding nice-ish stuff there for semi-cheap too. Sometimess Ross has pretty good selection of plus size stuff as well.
SCC, I like the ruffle on that first one, too.
For some reason, I LOVE this dress:

I know it would need tailoring, though, and I don't have the time to take it somewhere.
I kind of want this:

Nordstrom's is expensive, yo.
Just saw that :-D Woot! It may be a dress, then, since most of the tops there are too big on me.
OH! I don't know how much you're looking to spend, but the site I get all my retro dresses from has Plus Sizes and they're in Pasadena, so I usually get my stuff within 3 days TOPS.

They *are* kind of expensive though.
Ooooh. It makes her rack look fanTASTic.
Yeah, I need something under a hundred. lol
You could get a cute skirt at LB and a top somewhere else. That way you can get two different tops (one for each occasion) to go with the skirt.
This one's 65$ and it comes in a 2x:

I love the line of it.
How do you feel about pencil skirts?

?
With slutty tops?
Both of those are hot.
I have never in my life tried on a pencil skirt.
I KNOW.
Are they hard to walk in?
The walking isn't too bad unless you're climbing stairs, like SCC said. My main problem is that I hate regular stockings and wear thigh highs, so sometimes if you sit in them the skirt will ride up and you show some elastic unless you get stockings with super thin bands (in which case the darn things slide down). I swear pencil skirts ride up more than others when sitting down.
I only wear thigh high's as well, I either get ones that are extra long so the band is up near the very top of my thigh (the 1x/2x thigh highs from Fredericks are super long which is nice since I'm 5'9), or I wear a garter belt. Sexxxaay.
