Can you do a quick explanation of Montgomery vs 9/11 GI Bill?
DH enlisted with the plan of using the 9/11 GI Bill afterwards, but going through his paperwork we saw that they put him down for the Montgomery GI Bill. I want him to make them switch it before his second swear in, but he doesn't know if it's worth it because he heard the Montgomery is good too. Can you give me a brief comparison??

The basic difference is the pay structure of each GI Bill. For your associate?s degree under the MGIB, you get a flat $1,473 per month and you have to pay your own tuition and other education expenses.
Under the Post 9/11 GI Bill, if you attend a public school, the VA pays your tuition and you get a monthly housing allowance almost equal to your MGIB payment, plus once each semester you get up to a $500 book stipend for your associate?s degree. If you take your certification training at a technical or vocational school, you would get $83 per month in a book stipend instead of the $500 per semester. And both GI Bills will pay for certification retakes.

They won't change it. It's an option after you enlist. The post 9/11 has certain criteria that have to be met before you are eligible. It is not an enlistment option.
as of last October, you do get a housing allowance now for online classes. I believe it's the equivalent of the national average of E-5 with dependents.
That is correct. The national average right now is just under $700 I believe. I know it's less than Chicago BAH b/c DH was debating between on campus and online.
Ah, that's nice. I didn't hear about that change. Of course I've been using the MGIB for 20 months now, so I haven't looked more into it. Thanks for clarifying!
