Gas Prices
I remember it being up over $4/gallon the summer we got married, because Michael and I were paying well over $4/gallon on our honeymoon in Hawaii. Now, they are saying that since it's $4 already, it's likely to get up to $5/gallon this summer.
WTF? DH and I are already talking about changing some of our habits, like carpooling to work--and we have reasonably sized cars (a Mazda3 and a Honda CR-V). If I had a true gas-guzzler, I think I would cry.
Are you feeling the pinch from the rise already? Will you make any changes to your driving habits if gas prices hit $5?

Oh yeah, it hurts. Oil changes are naturally getting more expensive too.
It makes me really nervous. I know there's really nothing I CAN do to change it, not significantly. I asked a coworker about carpooling and he didn't seem really interested, which is fine, everyone likes their private time.
DH has mentioned possibly getting a used motorcycle and using that for his work commute on nice days....that could help, considering many of them get approx 50 miles to the gallon.
We both have fuel efficient cars (Fusion and Cobalt) but yes, we're definitely feeling the pinch. I just hope it doesn't get to the point where we can no longer contribute to savings because we're paying out the nose for gas.
I noticed it because I (stupidly) put premium in my car and when I filled up yesterday it was $3.99. I don't think regular has reached $4/gallon yet, but I'm sure that's not far behind. My car actually gets great gas mileage, but DH drives a truck. It's good, for a truck. But before this gas price jump it was about $80 to fill, so we'll definitely feel it now.
Unfortunately, there's not much we can do to save on gas. We commute/go to school in completely opposite directions. I do work from home more, so that helps a bit I guess. I have been trying to do more errands in one trip rather than one errand on one day, one on the next, etc.
It may impact summer/fall trips. We are planning to go to FL (and always drive) and want to go see my best friend and her DH in Canada (it's about a 7 hour drive).
If it got to $5 that would suck. We have two SUVs. One gets much better gas mileage than the other so I guess we'd use that one more. It's the younger / less miles one anyway so it wouldn't be that big of a deal.
Last Summer I drove a lot to work and was looking forward to doing that again this year but I probably wouldn't if gas was that much. Other than that, no real change in plans. We only really drive our cars around town.
I drive a Honda Accord that gets good gas mileage, but I drive very little...maybe 10-15 miles/week.
Sam drives a Toyota Tundra and drives about 15 miles each way to work.
If it got really bad we would just switch vehicles and he would drive the more fuel efficient one.
We already carpool to work when DH isn't working OT so I don't really know that we could save a ton. My friends and I always carpool when we're going somewhere as well.
The thing it may change is the car buying process. Both cars I'm looking at could have better gas mileage for sedans (they're AWD) and they both take premium gas. Blargh.
I drive a CRV, and don't drive much so we can't really save there.
DH drives an Expedition. It averages 12-13 miles/gallon. We're going to look at hybrids today.

We are in this really odd grouping of people who hate the fact that gas prices are so high...but since we work for an oil & gas consulting company - higher oil prices mean clients want to spend more money for upgrades, so then we get more work...and more work means job security. Such a double edged sword.
We are considering replacing our oldest car with a diesel. While diesel is still expensive - the gas mileage is MUCH better than the 1999 Ford Taurus.
Thankfully we both drive small, fuel efficient cars (Hyundai Elantra & Toyota Corolla) but it still hurts. I live on the MA/RI border & do most of my shopping in RI as the sales tax is less & so is the gas tax. The gas station near work was up to $3.75 this morning; where I filled up in MA on Sunday was $3.67. DH & I both drive a good amount as we're both in grad school (URI, where he goes, is on the other side of the state) & I do some home-based therapy. I already do combined errands with my mom or sister so we can save gas $.
We're planning on going to Iceland & Paris in May (you can stop in Iceland for free on the way to continental Europe; we'sre staying for free with family friends in Paris) & I'm kind of amazed the plane tix aren't horrid. Then again now that I just said that they'll probably spike overnight. Anyways, we won't be driving in Paris (subway) & I'm not sure about Iceland yet but we'll only be there for like 3 days anyways. We also go to my grandma's time share on Cape Cod ever summer but thankfully that's only a 90 min drive. My parents were planning on driving to SC to visit friends this summer until they did the math on gas prices!
It doesn't really effect us that much. We only have one car, and it's a Honda Fit, so we get pretty good gas mileage (though LA traffic is bad so it isn't as good as it could be). Still, my commute is only 8 miles each way.
That being said, we've discussed our "next phase of life" cars, when DH is no longer a student (aka we can afford new cars) and when there are kids in the picture. He would like an electric (with gas backup) like the Chevy Volt for his day-to-day commute. For the "kid car", I hate driving big cars, so we're thinking something smaller and definitely hybrid, like the Prius V or maybe even going as large as the Ford Escape hybrid. I'd have to get used to driving something that large, though!
