Does anyone actually like sewing from one of these? I had a subscription to their magazine a few years ago and saved the issues with baby clothes. I decided to make DD a couple of things from one and I?m ready to pull my hair out. I hate that they don?t include the seam allowance in the patterns, and the directions leave out a ton of steps so you really have to think about what you?re doing and how it should go together before you start because the things they do tell you are so not how McCall?s, Simplicity or any other would tell you to do it. Or is it just me who hates them?

Re: Burda patterns?
The seam allowance thing is interesting. I am taking an online class on couture dress sewing, and the teacher actually has you draw/trace the sewing line on the fabric (although the pattern we are using has seam allowances so we have to draw on the seamlines-lol), and only pay attention to that.
She says that it doesn't matter what kind of seam allowance you leave, since all you have to do is match the seamlines and sew along the line. It doesn't even have to be cut evenly, (or at an arbitrary size live 5/8"), since it can be evened up after it is sewn. If you know that you will have alterations, or if you are working on a delicate fabric that frays, you can leave more fabric so that you aren't stressing what will be left in the seam.
Some of the participants in the course thought that was a bit of an Aha! moment, and found the idea freeing...and time saving.
I have used a couple Burda patterns. I can draft my own pattern in the time it takes for me to trace a Burda out. LOL The lines all start to blur after awhile. I'm not a huge fan. I would just grab a Vogue pattern and call it a day.
I have about 8 or so of those Burda mags. I haven't used on of the patterns included in the mag yet....I DID make one of their purses from one of their other 'patterns' or instructions that was also in the mag. I still like keeping these for reference. I think one has to be a very 'experienced' seamstress to use patterns without seam allowances as well as patterns without directions, like the Marfy brand!
That being said, I'm kind of a nerd when it comes to patterns, I read thru them first before I even go to cut or anything! So now i will for sure put notes all over these mags to remember to add seam allowances!!!
