Nursery furniture:When to buy?
How soon is too soon to start in on the nursery basics? When did you start getting baby furniture? ILs offered to buy the crib, I know which one I want, but is it too soon to tell them we are ready whenever they are?
Re: Nursery furniture:When to buy?
when you find it on sale?
I think my MIL ordered our cribs around 20w.
We just ordered and received ours last week.
I didn't want to buy anything nor register before 20 weeks.
I got my crib about 3 years before I had DS! Mine is a hand me down from my sister.
As far as everything else...I had to wait until the room was remodled and painted before I could even get stuff in there. But I'd say right around 20-30 weeks. MIL got us our bedding/PNP/travel system as a shower gift.
Clothes were being bought from about 12 weeks.
We waited until I was a few weeks into the 2nd trimester to register (15 weeks?) and we got the crib using gift cards from my 1st shower (24 weeks?) and then we got the dresser from my work shower (35 weeks).
I'd say anytime from now until the beginning of your third trimester. I never expected to be on bedrest at the end of my pregnancy and I was just about done with the nursery, but there were a few things that I wish I would have gotten done sooner. Especially since after you get the furniture, that opens the door for more work ... washing sheets, blankets, clothes, etc.
I'd look now, pick out what you want and find out how long it will take to come in. Our crib and dressers were floor models so available immediately, but the glider was ordered and took like 12 weeks or so. I think we ordered after the anatomy scan.
I think it depends on you and how much of a planner you are. I wanted stuff mostly set up, etc. All that said, Ada didn't start sleeping in her crib til like 12 weeks for naps and overnight just the last two weeks or so.
But we used the glider and changing table/dressers immediately.

My parents had offered to buy our crib and we loved one at BRU and it was on sale but they felt like they couldn't buy it (I was 16-18 weeks at the time I think- darn Jewish superstitions). Anyway, we ended up buying a crib ourselves on SUPER sale for $79 (Graco Lauren) around June (6 1/2 months or so).
I ordered a dresser at the beginning of July I think. Those were the only two pieces we needed.
If you get a great price, then I'd jump on it... otherwise, I don't really see a need to rush.
we have this crib too. It's not exactly blinged out, but it does its job (two cribs with a bigger footprint would eat up their entire room anyway).
I second Baby Bargains. We read it on the floor at B&N one day and I took pics of the pages I needed (mattresses etc). Terrible, I know but not worth a buy to me but worth a skim.

Wait what?! Only $79!!?? That's the crib I'm planning to get assuming someone doesn't give us one. Where did you get it that cheap? I want to start stalking that store.
