I feel like all i do is dishes, morning noon and night, is there anyway i can make it easier besides getting a dishwasher, i got one its broken.

Re: Dishes dishes dishes

  • besides the advice of getting a new one or getting someone to fix it for you....

You might already do it, but I've found that filling your dishes with water when you put them in the sink helps a lot when I clean them. Cups and bowls or any plates that are deep enough. It helps get the stuck-on food soften and easier to clean. Also doing ones that have food on them that you know will stick worse right away instead of later helps (cheese is a big one).

I also prefer to do dishes as I go along while cooking so that the entire sink doesn't fill up so high and fast. The more dishes I do now, the less I'll have to do later.

I don't know what else to suggest since the amount of dishes you'll end up doing is the same either way, just a matter of when you do them. That is, unless you start using disposable products or eating out. :-P

  • yeah thanks thats a great idea i think my main issue is that we have just moved into a new big house and in my old house i used like 4 or everything so now all the stuff that was in storage need to be washed before it can be used, plus the daily dishes. I think im going to need to just get the storage dishes out of the way and then the daily ones wont be such a mission. lolBig Smile

  • no we didnt buy a house we got offered free rent from our company if we opened up a new branch in a new town for them, so thats what we did we live on the property of the business.
  • yeah the town we moved in is kind of smallish it took me over 2 months to find a daycare for my child, we found a guy who fixes washing machines cause mine broke after the move, so we are trying to find out if her fixes dishwashers, the one i got given to me leaks and its pretty old by the look of things, i wonder if i can still find a manual for it.lol
  • Once I got into the habit of doing the dishes as part of my daily routine-now I feel weird NOT doing them. After dinner I always do dishes, then sweep up the floor, clean the counter top/stove/table, then put the dishes away. I can do it all in 30-45 minutes. And I wake up the next morning to a clean kitchen. Can't beat that!

  • I would suggest rinsing any dishes just being used, that being plates, bowls, cups, and utensils. That way once you start dishes whenever you do them, there is no scubbing or much effort needed you can quick wash and rinse. Then with things that will be stuck on, you can soak them with soap and water so everything will come off easier. Or better yet, wash them right after you are done with them. :)

  • Aside from getting your dishwasher fixed, do the dishes as soon as they get dirty so they're not sitting around with stuck on food.

However, for that tough stuck on food, soak the pan/pot/dish in hot water with a dryer sheet. Dryer sheets remove static cling from your clothes but they also help the "static cling" of food on dishes.

  • Even I follow the same practice as KareBear does. I get all things done at night.
  • Have the dishwasher fixed?  I won't live without one ever again, I told DH if we moved into a house without one he's eating on paper plates until it's installed.
