bummed

About a year and a half ago a house went on the market, for sale by owner. We were curious so we went and saw it and fell in love. It needs a lot of work but it is totally livable and we could fix it up as we went. We called our RE and got the news about just how under water we probably are. The for sale sign went down about a month later and we guessed it had sold. It is on the way to IL's house so after a couple months we realized no one had moved in and figured the couple selling it for his mother decided just to sit on it til the market improved. DH called me at work on Sun. It is back on the market for about $30,000 less than before.

I know we would qualify for the loan, but we are still way too underwater to even think about getting out of here.  There are 2 houses for sale on our court both for about $15,000 less than we owe. We have a much better back yard, but other than that the houses are exactly the same (except one was sort of a flip and has some upgrades we don't). Neither has moved. :0(

And of course the listing...

  • Awww, if it's meant to be it will happen, or you guys have to decide how in love with this place you are. Maybe the stars will align for you all.

OR it could mean that good things come to those who wait, and maybe there is something even more perfect for you.

Did I sound cliche enough for you? :)

That's an adorable place and has great potential.

This is what I keep telling myself. I have thought about it constantly and there really is no way short of winning the lottery or an inheritance from some unknown relative that would get us out of this house...

So I guess we have to deal with someone else getting it. The only good thing is it isn't our perfectly ideal location. It is good and the schools are very good, but we would rather be a little further out.

But there is an in law suite in the basement and my mom could live there... Grrrrr

  • What a cute house! Just wanted to let you know I totally feel your pain. We are really underwater too and not going anywhere for the foreseeable future. If this house really is perfect for you but you just aren't in a position to sell right now, have you considered renting your current house out? Renting isn't for everyone but definitely is an option worth looking into with an experienced rental realtor Smile
  • Real estate really sucks sometimes. It's hard when you feel like you are not in control of the situation. We are (again) trying to sell the condo we moved out of last August, and we haven't received a single call about it. It's only been about a week and a half at this point, but it's hard not to automatically start thinking about how we were on the market for 6+ months last year, with zero offers. I'm afraid it's going to happen again. :(

I just wonder when the market is finally going to get better!

It is cliche, but things will work out at some point. There is more than one "perfect house" out there for everyone!

  • When we bought our house, we didn't expect to do as much work as we did, but once we got in here, we realized we wanted to make it more of our own.  In other words, we are spending more to redo things than we thought we would.

I agree with pp, it'll happen when it can happen.
