Zumba question

Would you consider Zumba moderate or high intensity?  I'm trying to track for Weight Watchers but they don't have it as an activity selection.  I entered the time that I did it for but I'm not sure how I should count the intensity.

Re: Zumba question

  • Moderate? I never feel as worked out on Zumba as I do other classes. But that may be because I'm uncoordinated and am a mess when I try to do arms and legs at the same time lol
  • Intense would be barely breathing, not able to sustain for very long. I would consider Zumba moderate. You may possibly get into an "intense" zone for a little bit, but not for the duration of the class.
  • I sweat a lot during zumba, so I usually use moderate, but add a point or two if the class is an hour long.
  • In my WW meeting today, the leader said 1 hour of Zumba =24 activity points. HTH!
  • I count a one hour class as 6 activity points.  I use Jazzercise off the activity list in lieu of Zumba.  If my instructor was on fire and really kept us working I might give myself a 7 for one hour. Hope this helps.

  • Thanks everyone.  I just wasn't sure if my intense-o-meter was off because I don't work out regularly yet.

What?! Not to be snarky, but there is no way. I've done 2-a-days that give me 1075-1200 calorie burns and those are still only 12-15 P+, there is no way an hour could get you 24. 24APs is the equivalent of a 1920 calorie burn.

Yes this. ?The only way you would get 24 fitness points back is if you weigh 500lbs.?

  • I just listed it as 20 minutes of moderate activity for 2 points.  That seems to make sense to me since others have been saying that they do 6-7 points for a full hour.

    Thanks again everyone!

  • Hi Rev! I wanted to say that each Zumba class really depends on your teacher. One hour can mean 200 calories or 450 calories based on your instructor's intensity level. The best bet for you is to invest in a heart rate monitor. You've been making great progress. Keep it up!
