Those who have confined a cat before...

how long did you do it for?  Lily has been locked up for 24 hours and there have been 3 pees in the box and NONE on the carpet. YAY!  Which makes me tempted to free her because of my own guilt, but I think that isn't going to help matters.

What do you I do? Leave her there until I get back on Monday? It's not like she gets much attention when she's out lately... she hides in the closet all the time. I just need someone to tell me what to do!

(I've been going in to give her love a few times day, in case anyone was thinking that I'm heartless).

Ok thanks :-)

Re: Those who have confined a cat before...

  • We had to confine S to a dog crate after she had a UTI that cleared up but she wouldn't use the box (at the time we were using our guest room as a foster room).

She was in there full time for a couple days, and then we began letting her out when we were home and could supervise her.  I would say she was allowed free reign again after about a week or so.

I felt bad, too, but she had to learn that she had to pee in her box.

Do you think that she isn't feeling safe to use the box? I know when we were having issues with S our vet wanted to know if she was being bullied around the box by B & L.

I think not, but I am not certain. We have 4 boxes and they are on 3 levels of the house, so it seems like that would give her plenty of space. Especially since she always just had a box in the basement and the kittens don't go down there much, but maybe she still has a feeling of being unsafe? What's weird though is the spots she is peeing in aren't exactly out in the open where she can keep an eye on the boys. So you'd think she feels unsafe there too.

MH's parents are coming this weekend to visit which just makes it all the worse. She hates company and doesn't need that added stress. They are here in conjunction with a doctor's visit though so we can't really get around it easily.

  • Can you help his parents pay for a hotel? not sure if it's worth the stress on the cat. You have a lot going on at home
  • Tinker was confined for a couple of weeks until we got his stress level under control.  But I was able to sit with him every evening and check in on him several times a day.

Ugh, I would love to but I'm not sure that's possible. I'm leaving my husband for another week with the toddler so forbidding his parents from staying might be bad. He's not overjoyed with the stay either so I suppose I could at least suggest it and see what happens. ;-)

Oh good, nice to hear some success stories. I let her out today while I could supervise, and no pees. So this seems to be working. About 48 hours in and no rogue pees. I think I'll tell MH to let her out in the evenings after LO is in bed so that she can have a little freedom.

She's also been meowing at the door sometimes which makes me so sad, but if she is no longer stress peeing, it must be for the best, right? I can't wait until everyone is happy again!

  • I think confining until Monday will be a good idea. Does she have toys or something? Even if she doesn't normally play with them, she might appreciate them while she is confined and cant explore!
