S/O plantar fasciitis-Heel discomfort

I do not think that I have plantar fasciitis, but I do have another weird heel sensation...it is not all the time, and it isn't only when I run (but it is worse then).  I do not get a shooting pain, but more like a shooting discomfort, tingle, numbness?  It starts in my heel, but I feel it when my TOES make contact with the ground.  Very strange and very uncomfortable.  Anyone know what this is?

 Thanks!

Re: S/O plantar fasciitis-Heel discomfort

  • So I'm mostly just a lurker, and I'm not sure if I'm officially qualified to give any sort of medical advice here as I'm just a PTA student, but we just learned about something called a plantar neuroma or Morton's neuroma. If you're feeling numbness or tingling or cramping/burning type pain up by your toes but more toward the outside of the ball of your foot, it might be that. You might also feel this if you're on the elliptical b/c you tend to put a lot of your weight/pressure on the balls of your feet while you're on the machine. But basically it's an aggravated nerve in your foot btwn your 3rd and 4th metatarsals. Are your shoes wide enough in the toe box? Do you wear heels or shoes with pointed toes during the day? Again, not sure at all if I've got the right idea here, but I thought it might help to throw another possible suggestion out there! The fact that most of the discomfort is actually felt in your heels (even though it's when your toes hit the ground) might suggest something else entirely though. Good luck!
  • I agree with the PP... as first I was going to say heel spur, but what the PP stated sounds more like it.
  • I do have a MN as well, but this feels totally different.  Perhaps it is a heel spur...Thanks!
