Per-race eating

Training for my first half. What eating plan do you follow leading up to a race? Note: TMI, but I worry about needing to go #2 during the race.

  • Ha!  You're so cute.  I'll answer anyway.  I usually stick with my normal eating habits, but the week leading up to a 5K I'll make sure I bulk up on water.  The morning of the race (like at least 3 hours before, since I get horrible side cramps if I eat and then run too soon) I'll have a banana w/ PB to keep me fueled as well as lots of water.

I ate a bagel with PB & banana on it before my first half.

During training I ate what I normally ate.

  • No, Eve, stay and tell us your concerns about going #2... you wouldn't be the first and you certainly won't be the last Stick out tongue
  • Night before I had pasta

Morning of I had a Cliff Bar, and then make sure I had either fig newtons or pretzels with me along the way.

Of course I walk 1/2 marathons, I don't run them, so I'm out there on the course longer.

  • Thanks everyone. :) I'm able to hit at least 8 miles now without needing to go, but that's only if I go right before I leave.
