Re: OL Tuesday

  • Oh Car,

You have some ironic timing. As I'm pulling into the service station to get my inspection done, you notify me that the rear taillight is out.  Luckily, it was only 5.99 to have you replaced so that I passed.  But seriously, what timing.

  • Michelle, better for it to happen when you are already there. If it happened right after then you would have to make another trip and that would be a pain, right?

    Dear little sister,

I hope you actually listen to what I was saying last night. Having a fight in the middle of the Highlands isn't ideal, but I hope it makes you grow up a little.

  • Dear Chocolate Festival-

I look forward to seeing you next weekend.

    Dear Avenue Q-

If I can get my stuff together, we might be seeing you this weekend!

    Dear tension headache sufferers-

How in the world do you cope?  Any suggestions on how to get them to go away besides taking Excedrin?

    Dear purse-

I am determined to keep your weight down for good.  I'm sure you do not help my neck/shoulder pain.

    Dear sleep-

It's been nice getting to know you around 8:30 pm the last 2 nights.

    Dear sushi-

I look forward to learning how to make you tonight.

  • Dear Jaymi,

I take Tylenol for all of my headaches:  sinus, migraine, tension.  It works for me when Advil never has.

    Dear Student,

I get it:  you really liked our former principal.  However, you're not always going to have attachment to people in positions of authority.  Our new principal has a different style that's all.  I happen to like it.

    Dear Bill,

I miss you.  However, I really enjoyed not having to try to sleep through your awful snoring.

I've been taking either Excedrin or Ibuprofen, as that's what I have on hand, but I am having them nearly every day and they last most of day.

As for the snoring, Marcus thinks our recent purchase of a humidifier has helped him.

  • Dear Jaymi, ugh, I have had a headache for 2 days.  I thought it was a migraine at first but now I think it's just sinus.  Two Aleve usually do the trick for me--that is what I took last night.

Dear Nesties, I never thought I would say this, but I watched the entire Daytona 500 last night (minus the 2 hour delay during which we watched the Bachelor) and I totally got into it.  I found it fascinating and had a million questions that even Ben couldn't answer since he knows nothing about racing.  Never again will I make fun of it and say it's just a bunch of cars going around and around.

Oh, I need to tell Ben about this pillow you guys were talking about in yesterday's thread.  He wakes up with neck pain almost every morning.

    Chocolate festival???????

Grapevine Chocolate Festival is next weekend.

*runs off to find out more information* I can't believe I haven't heard about this before

  • Chocolate Festival?  I never knew there was one, but it sounds ah-maz-ing!

Deepthi, I'm happy my light went out when it did.  The timing was just really ironic.

Jaymi - I have always taken excedrin for my headaches as that always works best.  Tylenol has ZERO effect on me.  Since we are now in the TTC phase, I've been trying not to take it.  For me that means never missing an allergy pill (Claritin 24hour every night), and when I do get them, closing my eyes, dark quiet room, and sometimes a cold compress over the eyes.

    Dear Teachers,

What do you think about the "sickout" for tomorrow in DISD?

  • Tension Headache Sufferers:

My mom bought me this As Seen On TV contraption called a RealEase.  It's a neck relaxer thingy, and you just lay down and put your head on it.  It works best if you lay on the floor, instead of a bed, and it doesn't feel like it's doing anything... but I swear, 10 minutes later and my tension headaches are gone.  The thing was like $30, and worth every penny.

    Dear jeans,

I'm so excited to be wearing you!  Yay for casual dress from now on!

  • Dear Nesties, dang, if I didn't have a church retreat this weekend, I would say a chocolate festival G2G would be a must.

Dear Chelsea, that picture of Hannah with her veil on and holding her bouquet made me gasp out loud.   I love all the artsy stuff, but a simple photo of a bride with her veil on always brings tears to my eyes.

Dear Nesties, TN is going sooooo slow for me today.

  • Dear Jaymi,

I use excedrin, biofreeze, and a heated cherry pit neck thing once I already have one but for me the key was figuring out what causes them so I can try to avoid it or treat it before it gets really bad.

Have you done the chocolate festival, we were in grapevine last year while it was going on but didnt actually do it and I wondered if it was worth it.

    Dear Angie,

I will have to look into that pillow and also whatever pillow Stephie said was mentioned in yesterdays thread because if I sleep wrong at all I instantly have a headache.

We did both days a couple of years ago but this year we are just doing Friday night, which is $50 each but if it's the same as 2 years ago you each get 3 glasses of wine (and the glasses), a few appetizers and as much chocolate as you want.  With the day event you could only choose 10 items from everything and it was much crowded and busy.  I like the laid back feeling of Friday night.

Talk of a chocolate festival makes me want to cry. I'm realizing how much of my happiness is bound up in food... I know that can't possibly be healthy, but I LOVE cooking with my husband and eating happy food. A bowl of pineapple for breakfast and boiled eggs for snack is going to get old really fast. I actually dreamed about Mack's famous biscuits and gravy last night. FOR REAL.

    excedrin

Just remember that Excedrin has lots of caffeine in it, so, if you're trying to cut that out, you might want to try something different.  Advil never worked for me, but Tylenol always does.  I, too, take my Claritin every night before bed and it seems to help me stay away from the sinus headaches and infections.  Also, for those of you who are TTC, I would suggest avoiding decongestants as well.  Those raise the blood pressure as well and now I can feel my heart start to raise if I take them or have been given one (either Excedrin or decongestants) accidentally after being off them for so long.  Also, things like Pamprin or anything for PMS generally have lots of caffeine in them as well.

    Stephie,

A doctor once told me that, if you wake up with a headache, it's sinus related.  However, once it goes past one day it's either an infection or a migraine.

    Dear Chelsea,

Since I am friends with former students who sometimes have very inappropriate moments and have felt the need to tell me things on FB, I shut down my wall.  However, I would still love to see a picture of your shirt yesterday.

    Jaymi,

We've tried everything under the sun for snoring.  It seems to be worse during allergy seasons (sometimes, but not always), but I can't get him to a doctor to get tested for something/anything.  There have been times where I was awake and could hear him not breathing for many seconds (I got to eleven one time).  He really just needs help but is too stubborn and busy to do something about it.  Thankfully, he is usually more than willing to go to the couch during the really bad times.

That is not good, Julie.  The husband half of the couple we hung out with this weekend talked about sleep apnea for a bit as he has it and is on the by pap.  You can just stop breathing and never wake up; that is how one of my dads cousins died.  My grandpa is on the cpap and while my dad has symptoms too, he won't visit the doctor either.

Just blind fold him and tell him it's a surprise.

I'm sorry :(  I wanted to cry twice yesterday, 6 days into our fast, for what shall go nameless because I don't want to make you (or myself, really) cry anymore.

A bowl of pineapple for breakfast? That's it?  No way could I live off of that.

  • Dear Chelsea, you can still cook with your husband and enjoy food.  You just have to do it in moderation.  I made chicken enchiladas Sunday night and had a piece of cake for dessert.  So the rest of the week, I will eat healthy and workout.  Diet and exercise has served me well for almost 43 years now.  I am convinced it is what works.  You can have biscuits and gravy--just not every day.  Trying to live on pineapple and eggs is just going to make you want it all the more.

Ok, I will step off my soapbox.  TN disappeared for me for about an hour and I think TK is still acting weird also.

  • My TN is finally working properly.

I agree with Stephanie. If you eat the same thing every day it will get old. The best thing is to mis it up with different options, but healthier ones. Granted I'm not all that healthy, I've just read a lot about it. You can still cook together. The amount of healthy recipies out there are getting larger and larger.

  • Stephie,

I am glad to hear that you enjoyed last night's race.  That is not a typical race though.  I've never seen so many cautions at Daytona!!!  However, it was very exciting and thrilling and I'm glad to see that Dale Jr. got second.  He and I were born one month apart and we pretty much have the same nickname.  He's Junebug (one of the announcers has a tendency to call him that since he has known him since birth) and, well you see my screen name.

I have a faculty meeting after school today.  I was going to go to the soccer games, but I need to go home and do housework to get ready for my leaving for Houston on Thursday.

I'm really learning this more and more with this fast.  I feel great after exercising but I haven't been able to do my workouts on this fast so while my eating is healthy and great, I don't feel great.  It really is about balance and I'm hoping some of the things we are doing with the fast will become habits on the eating side of this.

  • I know I'm late... but I LIVE in Grapevine and I haven't heard about this festival.  Hmm...

Someone on the boards (probably Jaymi) talked about it a couple of years ago but it's always pretty quiet.  It makes me wonder if they really want it to be successful....
