I'm taking an online creative writing class to kind of shake things up, get back to basics, and get some feedback on my work.
I sent in my assignment last week, which was just a kind of free-form writing exercise from a prompt. I got feedback on it today. The instructor loved it and said he hopes I incorporate the character into a story. He really had nothing bad to say.
It's nice to hear these good things, of course, but I was sort of just sitting there thinking, Dammit, I want you to tell me what's wrong with my writing and why more people aren't publishing it!
I can't win for losing.
Re: So, yeah, I'm weird
Why not self-publish? (assuming you're talking about books rather than a single essay or poem or something, I'm not sure what you write or where you want to publish)
But I get the frustration. I have a couple students who write beautifully. It's hard to find something to "correct" them on, but there is always something that can be used for guidance, for the sake of the class.

It's not weird to take steps to improve your skills.
Did you explain to them the reason you are taking the class? Maybe they'll be more critical then.
