Need Vacation ideas
I usually lurk on the money matters board, but you guys seem to have a lot of good ideas and tips, so I was hoping to get some feedback on where to go next.
We honeymooned in Jackson Hole in September and loved everything about it, the scenery, the food, the laid back culture, we had a blast. So we want to go somewhere with a similar feel but on a new adventure. We were thinking:
- somewhere with a small town feel, but welcoming to tourist
- good food, local breweries
- gorgeous landscapes, see wildlife (national park)
- take day trips and take off on our own adventures
- nice hotel or resort, no best westerns or anything like that
- maybe something near a large lake as H likes to boat, boat rentals would be a plus
Does anyone have any good idea? I was thinking Lake Tahoe, but we aren't skiers and will be visiting in August/ September and I haven't been able to find out too much about the summer activities. I'd love to go to the Grand Canyon but when I researched on tripadvisor I didn't see many nice hotels or good places to dine.

You need to go to Banff, Lake Louise, and Jasper in Alberta, Canada.
Heaven on earth.
There are lots of Fairmont properties and smaller more intimate luxurious places (check out Moraine Lake Lodge).
Definitely check out Estes Park and/or Fort Collins, CO. Estes Park is a mountain town only about an hour and a half away from Denver- great tourist "trap" town with lots of shopping. The great Trail Ridge Road is there at the entrance to the Rocky Mountain National Park. There is a LOT of wildlife, great resorts or even camping. GREAT drive to the top and makes a perfect day trip with lots of beautiful scenery. Also the Stanley Hotel from The Shining. Two wineries and the Estes Park Brewery.
Just a half hour down the mountain is For Collins, CO. It is a cute college town, but with a LOT to do. Colorado State campus, walk around "Old Town". I LOVE Coopersmith's Restaurant and Brewery. There are several nationally known breweries all along the same road- Fort Collins Brewery, New Belgium, O'dells, etc. It is fun to walk between them and sample brews. BeauJo's Pizza is also good and has been featured on the Food Channel. The Rio is known for their GIANT margaritas. Walrus ice cream shop. The Poudre Canyon is nearby for a great drive (You can often see rams.) If it is summer, you can tube down the Poudre River and is also EXCELLENT white water rafting.

OMG...I just booked a trip to Ft Collins for my DH for work!!! I will show him this, I am sure he'd like to go to the brewery!!! He is going next week.

Yes Fort Collins is great place- lived close to there for 10 years. I really miss it. Lots of good breweries.
