Snap Fitness

If you belong to a Snap Fitness club (I think they're all over the country?) do you like it? Pros? Cons?

I've been a member of Lifetime for almost 2 years now, but I'm sick of how expensive it is and the fact that my club is over-run with unattended children and the running track is a total hazard. I've been forced to treadmill run all winter because I fear getting hurt on the track or hurting someone else. If I'm just gonna stick to a treadmill, bike, elliptical, and stairmaster for training, there's no point in me paying an extra $30/month to stay at my current gym.

I hear that Snap's don't have locker rooms, though? Do you find this an issue?

Re: Snap Fitness

  • I'm a member of a Snap Fitness and I joined and go primarily because it's right next door to work so it's convenient. Ours is pretty small but it has the basics- it has maybe 12 cardio machines (treadmills, cross country skiers, a bike and a stair climber), 20 weight machines or so, a mat area, dumbells, squat bar, etc. It fits my needs and isn't overly crowded. There is a locker area, bathrooms and 2 showers. the thing that is really weird about mine is that there is no drinking fountain! That's my biggest pet peeve with it.
  • Hi Mush!

Have you looked into LA Fitness? I only paid $17 a month after my health insurance discount if I went 12x a month. Some insurance only requires 8x a month for the discount.

I went to the ones in Hopkins and SLP, and while they aren't nearly as nice as Lifetimes, they did the job for me. My only complaint was not finding a treadmill during busy times, but I think that's pretty standard.

I think I took one class total in over 2 years of going, so I can't comment on those. They also don't tend to have running tracks.

I only quit because I was running outside so much and it was a struggle to get there 12x a month once I started training for races.
