I'm looking for a small, carry-on sized weekender type suitcase, under $100, need it for a trip May 3-7. Last night at TJ Maxx I saw these two options and liked both but couldn't decide. They're the same size and almost the same color, Option 1 is slightly darker.
Option 1: Ricardo Beverly Hills brand (never heard of this before), $60; the front pocket is the whole height of the bag but not very "deep" - not necessarily very functional, I don't know what I'd put in there without it getting lost at the bottom of the long narrow pocket; retractable handle does not have a zip-over protective cover; has inner laptop sleeve; 4 wheels all of which swivel in all directions for easy turning.
Option 2: Chaps Ralph Lauren brand, $60; the two front pockets may be more functional but aren't as attractive; the retractable handle has a zip-over cover; inner mesh pocket with travel size bottles instead of a laptop sleeve; 2 wheels which do not swivel.
I think Option 1 is slightly more attractive and Option 2 is slightly more functional.
Maybe I should just keep looking?
Re: Help me buy a suitcase. (PIP)
Or try Kohl's...they usually sell suitcase sets (where you get two suitcases and an overnight bag) for like $99. I've had decent luck with those, and I used to fly pretty often.
The only bad experience I had was a few suitcases ago when I got my bags at baggage claim and the whole extendable handle of one was snapped off, leaving these jagged broken stabby sticks sticking out of the top. So that zip cover over the retractable handle isn't a bad idea.
I have to say that I really like the pockets that go all the way down. They are good for magazines and things that don't always fit in the halfway pockets. I don't care about handle covers.
That being said, I just bought a new suitcase almost exactly like #2.
This. My suitcase with 2 wheels in infuriating.
I second Kohl's. I got my DS a 3 pc set there for around $60 when they had a good sale and I also had a 30% off coupon to use on top of the sale price. It's not the highest quality luggage, but it has 4 swivel wheels and held up during his 10 day trip to Europe where he had to haul his suitcase to 4 different hotels and sleep with it on the night train!
