Mambo movers clients please come in
Backstory: we are moving 7 blocks away. It is ridiculous, but we need movers. I have heard many good things about Mambo Movers.
My questions:
1. Did they charge you for their drive time? (as in, do they bill for the trip to your house with an empty truck?)
2. Is the fee by the hour or by the size of the move?
3. Did you find them reliable and careful with your items? (we'll be moving most of our fragile items ourselves)
4. Do you mind sharing your approximate cost?
Oh, and if you had a negative experience or have an alternate suggestion, please let me know!
Thank you.
Re: Mambo movers clients please come in
They did charge for drive time plus a little extra according to distance (for gas, I assume). It wasn't significant though. They bill you by the hour and they were definitely reliable. We moved our tv and a few lamps ourselves, though.
The guys also chased after our greyhound after she got loose during the move. Thankfully we caught her. But dang...those skinny hipsters can run fast!
(er: talk to my "officemate"...she used mambo to move her grandmother in NY).
I am the only person known to man that had a bad experience with them. So if I'm one bad out of thousands of good recommendations, I wouldn't not use them just because of what happened to me because I'm sure it was a fluke. The guys were nice but so worn out that they bordered a bit on irritable. I had a lot of clothing in bags and apparently that is frowned upon. Anyway, here's the overall gist of what happened to me.
Quoted 4-5 hours - moving from a N. Libs 2 bed, 2 bath loft apt with elevator to S. Philly row home.
Movers said they were going to arrive between 1-2pm. We'd essentially be finished by dinnertime.
They arrived between 6-7pm to start the move. I had been calling the office all day trying to get an ETA and they apologized and said their morning move didn't go so well... could never get a straight ETA, but said they would be there soon.
One of the guys blew out my bathroom and said it was because he had a burrito for dinner. Overall, they seemed wiped and moved super slow.
We didn't get to S. Philly until 10:00 that night. They had us in by 11:30-12.
I was pretty pissed - what a first impression to make on our new neighbors who heard all that noise so late at night during the week...
We didn't fight the cost since we paid by hour and we did tip too since we were planning on it - felt bad overall that the guys seemed miserable and exhausted. The poor scheduling wasn't really their fault.
From what I remember, they estimate the cost of the move but you pay based on the hour then? Sorry, I don't have more details.
We too used them for a move that was around a mile. We were going from a
3rd floor apartment to a row home in South Philly (basically across Broad Street). If they have an AM slot available, take that, as you will get a guaranteed arrival time. With the PM slots, you have to wait until they are done their AM job. We took a PM slot because we had no real time limits as to when we had to be out and in our new house, but I figured I would mention it in case you had time constraints.
1. Did they charge you for their drive time? (as in, do they bill for the trip to your house with an empty truck?) I don't recall exactly, but I think it was a nominal charge.
2. Is the fee by the hour or by the size of the move? By the hour. I believe it was a 2 hour minimum.
3. Did you find them reliable and careful with your items? (we'll be moving most of our fragile items ourselves) Yes! They could not get our couch, bed, boxspring and mattress down the stairs, so they hoisted them down and over the fire escape. Everything was handled with the utmost care and nothing was damaged. It was also raining/snowing the day we moved and we had no issues.
4. Do you mind sharing your approximate cost? I believe the entire cost with tips (20 bucks for each guy) was under 400 bucks.
I don't remember any of the costs and stuff, but it was reasonable, the guys were great, no issues - I recommend them continually.
They moved us out of a storage unit on Route 30 to Fairmount. Everything was therefore already packed/boxed from our move from London.
I agree with getting movers, so much, Nigel and I lived in A ROOM in my aunt's house for 10 months and it took freaking like 6-8 carloads just for the things we didn't have in storage.
Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
I love mambo and have used them about 4 times now.
They do a great gob.
