I am trying to exercise more and I have been working my buns off but it makes me so hungry that I have been eating back all of my hard work and losing no more weight than I was when I was doing less!
I am so hungry, does this ever end? Does your body eventually get used to the new activity? And yes, I promise I am eating enough (I wear a bodybugg and trust me, eating back 2600 calories when you burned that many is eating too much!).
It is discouraging because I am trying harder. Any tips/encouragement?
Re: Exercise and Hunger????
I would try experimenting with what types of calories you're eating. Everyone is different, but it may be that you're not as hungry if your diet is composed of more proteins or more carbohydrates, more fat, etc. I would try to incorporate a larger percentage of protein and see if that helps first. If it doesn't, try something else.
For me, when I'm working out really hard, I absolutely need to up the protein in order to keep myself full. I keep nuts with me all the time. Also, try eating smaller meals 5 times a day rather than 3 times with medium to larger meals. There are lots of things you can try.
I also wear a BodyBugg - my goal is to burn 3,000 calories a day, and eat 1800-2000. So if you're burning 2600 per day, I would guess you should be eating between 1700-1900. Anything under that, in my personal opinion, is too few for the calories you're burning.
Thanks for the reply. I have been trying to up my protein and stick to more calories per day (like 1800-2000 per day instead of 1500 then binging on 2500) but damn, it is hard!
P.S. - how the hell are you burning 3000 cals a day, damn! The most I have ever done is 2800. Good for you.
Ditto the PP: Protien is your friend. If I've had a really hard workout, I will have a scoop (or 2) of protien powder right when I get done (I mix in water and chase with fresh water). It really helps me to not get home and want to eat everything in sight.
Bazinga!

My thinking is similar to the PPs in that I would increase your protein or fat intake. Personally, I have to eat much more fat when exercising more.
I will share that last summer I learned by accident that I had to back off of my hard core workouts. I was lifting a lot and was constantly hungry. When I went on vacation and didn't lift for a few weeks, my hunger subsided, I lost weight, and I actually felt much better overall because I wasn't completely preoccupied with how I would get my next snack or meal. Since then I've been far more measured with my lifting.
I would try and mix up your routine. Your body can get in a rut if you are doing the same exercise 4-6 days a week. Maybe do the elliptical class 3 days a week, run one day, and do the bodypump class 2 days. Even if you want to stick with the elliptical mix up the exercises.
