So the other day I was thinking back on my prom. And then I started wondering how other peoples' proms were.
So here's a fun poll:
1. Did you go?
2. Was there alcohol?
3. Where was it?
4. Did you have a date or go stag?
5. Anything else you want to add:

Re: Fun Prom Poll
1. Did you go? Yes
2. Was there alcohol? Only at the second part of the night
3. Where was it? The first part was in a banquet hall type thing in a casino. The second part was a boat cruise with alcohol and dancing.
4. Did you have a date or go stag? I went stag, and they even forgot the sit me with my friends. A couple months before the prom, I came up with the idea of maybe taking DH with me (we were just friends back then), but it was too late at that point.
5. Anything else you want to add: I didn't have too much fun, but if I hadn't gone, I would have regretted it and always wondered what I would have been like.
1. Did you go? Yes, I went to my own senior year prom and have been to 4 or 5 proms as a teacher since.
2. Was there alcohol? Not until after our prom, but I didn't partake.
3. Where was it? Hotel Banquet room
4. Did you have a date or go stag? I went with one of my best friends who is still a good friend today and whose wife is my bff.
5. Anything else you want to add: It was fun and I'm glad I went... I've honestly had more fun as an adult chaperoning proms... with the confidence of an adult, it's super fun! One prom was on a museum rooftop (we're hosting it there again this year), another was in a big science museum... also super awesome... so much better than a boring hotel banquet hall!
1. Did you go? Yes
2. Was there alcohol? No, but they used to do something called "safe grad" where on a different evening all the members of the graduating class and their date/guest were bussed out to a secret location (usually someones parents farm land) and parents bartended and we got hammered in a "safe" environment. Needless to say, that no longer happens due to legalities of under age drinking, who is responsible if something goes wrong, etc, etc, etc. Someone also always hosted an "after party" after the school sponsored dance that again would usually be on someones farm land and alcohol would be there.
3. Where was it? At a big convention centre in the city next to us. There isn't/wasn't a place in our town big enough to hold that many people.
4. Did you have a date or go stag? I had a date, my high school boyfriend.
5. Anything else you want to add: Here is the only pic I have on my computer, circa 2001 when I didn't have a digital camera yet
I'm in the blue and my mom made my dress for me.
I went to a Chistian School so we didn't have a prom but we did have a banquet that the Junior classes hosts. There is generally an after party of some kind which can range from bowling to renting a ball room some place and hiring a DJ.
1. Did you go? Yes, I went both my junior and senior years. I went to the afterparty my junior year, but not my senior year.
2. Was there alcohol? Nope
3. Where was it? Junior year we hosted it at the fanciest hotel ball room in town. We're talking the hotel were famous people and sports figures stay when they come to town. Normally the hotel won't let high schools have any kind of function there, but a clasmate's parent had a connection and got us in at a great deal too!
Senior year we went to a banquet hall that is for formal/black tie events. It was lovely, but honestly I liked the location better our junior year.
4. Did you have a date or go stag? I had a date both years. Junior year, my friend who had a crush on me asked me to go, so I said yes, but only as friends. Senior year, M went with me. We'd been dating about 2 monthes at the time.
5. Anything else you want to add: After senior year banquet, M & I went to a mini golf course and played a round of putt-putt in our formal wear! We got stares but it was so fun and we laughed the whole time.
1. Did you go? Yes
2. Was there alcohol? No, not even at the house we stayed at the night after prom.
3. Where was it? At a country club a couple of towns over from our high school.
4. Did you have a date or go stag? I had a date. We officially became bf/gf that night after kind of sort of hinting around at it. So high school.
5. Anything else you want to add: I need to track down a picture....
2. Was there alcohol? Probably - but none that I knew of
3. Where was it? In the ballroom of a local college - we had after-prom at the high school, games, popcorn, cotton candy - something to keep us out of trouble - it was a blast
4. Did you have a date or go stag? date both years
5. Anything else you want to add: The guy I went with Jr year showed up in boot, cowboy hat and a leather trimmed tux. I had such a crush on him.
1. Did you go? Yes, ours is open to seniors and juniors (put on by jr class), I went to both and was on the prom committee jr year, plus went as a date my sophomore year.
2. Was there alcohol? At the after parties, yes.
3. Where was it? Soph: local hotel, junior: remodeled barn (think high end rustic wedding), sr year: same "barn"
4. Did you have a date or go stag? Date all 3 years. Jr was my favorite because I went with a good friend and we had a blast.
5. Anything else you want to add: I continued to relive "prom" through sorority formals in college-since most of my friends were in Greek life, and my BF for most of college was in a fraternity, I hit up 2-4 formals per semester and my prom dresses got to be revived many times. Formals-like prom but with lots of booze, a much bigger budget and less people. I just donated all the dresses last spring-20 of them-since yoga pants and baby spit up are more my speed lately.
2. Was there alcohol? I'm sure there was some at both, but I only know of it being at the after parties. I didn't drink in HS, so I didn't partake.
3. Where was it? Prom was in the banquet room of a local hotel/resort. Senior Ball was on a boat cruise on the Hudson River.
4. Did you have a date or go stag? I went to both with DH. For my prom, we were just friends. I had just moved to the area and didn't know many people. He was a senior and wanted to go to my prom, so our friends set us up and it worked out. By the time my senior ball rolled around, we had been dating for almost a year.
5. Anything else you want to add: Before I was going to go with DH, I was supposed to go to prom with another friend. He had an older gf who went to a different school, and her senior ball was the same night, so she wasn't coming to our prom. She then threatened to run me over with a car if I went to the prom with her bf (classy!), so that's when I decided it'd be safer to go with DH
.
2. Was there alcohol? Nope
3. Where was it? It was here: http://crystalplaza.com/ Which I loved, but then I totally couldn't look at it as a venue option when we were getting married.
4. Did you have a date or go stag? Stag!
5. Anything else you want to add: My best friend and I had always planned to go together but he passed away in a car accident senior year. I didn't want to go but I was afraid I'd look back and wish I went. I decided to go alone because it felt like going with someone else would be replacing him. Everyone was super supportive - I had people to dance with all night, one guy friend took formal pictures with me and another bought me flowers. They all turned what could have been a really sucky night into something fabulous.
