Snap Fitness

If you belong to a Snap Fitness club, do you like it? Pros? Cons?

I've been a member of Lifetime for almost 2 years now, but I'm sick of how expensive it is and the fact that my club is over-run with unattended children and the running track is a total hazard. I've been forced to treadmill run all winter because I fear getting hurt on the track or hurting someone else. If I'm just gonna stick to a treadmill, bike, elliptical, and stairmaster for training, there's no point in me paying an extra $30/month to stay at my current gym. There's a Snap Fitness 1/2 a mile from my house. I think I'll try it and keep my lifetime membership for a month and see, but thought I'd get some opinions on here too.

I hear that Snap's don't have locker rooms, though? Do you find this an issue?

Re: Snap Fitness

  • The thing I didn't like about Snap, which may not matter to you, is that they aren't always staffed.  I am an early morning gym goer (5:30am) and it creeped me out to think that I could be alone in there with a weirdo.  Nothing else to comment on since I didn't end up signing up for that reason.

  • I am a member of a gym that has a swipe card access 24/7 and after the first time using it at an odd hour you get over any "fear" quickly.  The main thing is use your brain, know your surroundings, and don't let anyone in with you..  The staff leaves at about 8PM and not sure what time they are there in the AM..  It's one thing if you're in the middle of some shady parts of town with high crime rates, it's another when you're out in the burbs..

Depending on where you're at in the cities, there are some great privately run facilities that are worth checking out instead of chain gyms.  In the south, there's Southside (Burnsville), east there's Riverfront Fitness (Hudson), central (The Press)..

  • I belonged to Snap a few years ago, and I liked it.  I always went with my husband, so the fact that it wasn't staffed all the time didn't bother me.  There were not any lockers, but there were cubbies right when you walked in....it wasn't ideal, but we never had a problem.

We went at a time that was not very busy, so we never had to wait for a machine that we wanted.  Ours tended to be the busiest between 5-7, so if we went after dinner or right after we both got home from work, and it worked great!
