What's the worst job you've ever had?
Re: QOTD - 3.1.2012
My paper route! Getting up at 5 am on Sunday mornings when you're 13 and it's a blizzard outside is the worst feeling ever! (Sunday = ginormous papers). I think I have permanent nerve damage in my shoulder from carrying those papers.
However, I am glad I did it. Nothing like a paper route to teach a kid responsibility and good work ethic.
Aside from a paper route (good call, Mol), I haven't had a job that I hated. There were parts of every job that I would change, but they all had great qualities, too. Example: my worst full day of work was removing invasive trees species from an area. We had to be cautious of giant poisionous snakes, and gnats we're constantly hovering in our ears/eyes/nose/mouth. The trees gave off a terrible odor when cut, and it was crazy hot. But... after work was done, we got to enjoy a beautiful nearly deserted island where dolphins swam, and giant sea shells washed up every morning.
Working at Family Christian Stores warehouse. Worked there a week through Manpower. They called me to say they didn't need me the same day I was going to call and tell them I was done.
Standing on my feet for 8 hours loading boxes or stickering items. Awful!!
My Profile
*growl* The nest just ate my response. Trying again...
I've had a couple of jobs in high school that were doozies.
Second worst... I spent a summer as the cleaning person at a large restaurant/bar/club at the local Air Force base. I typically worked six days a week and it wasn't uncommon to clean up some really nasty messes (including puke) after parties from the night before. But the redeeming qualities were that I got to work by myself, the hours were fairly flexible (I just had to have the place clean by the time they opened at 3:00), and the boss was nice.
Worst job... bussing tables at a restaurant. I hated it. It was hard (physically) work and it was gross. And most everyone else who worked there was mean to me or just completely ignored me, except for the dishwasher guy who was a little too friendly. I worked there for two months.
Then I got a job doing clerical work at an insurance agency. I thought I had hit the jackpot! No barf, no urinals, no dirty dishes, no hard labor! I was awesome.
Telemarketing. I lasted 4 hours and then had to quit. It was just not going to work out for me. It was such a short amount of time, I don't even think it counts as a job.
I guess I'm lucky. I haven't had a lot of jobs but of all 4 of them I've enjoyed for the most part.
GRTV: I started out as a volunteer and ended up as the evening//weekend receptionist.
Blockbuster: Free Movies. House weren't the best but I was a kid.
Art Van: I was here for 8 years the only part that sucked was my boss was a a druggie ***.
MI Blood: If the hours would have been better I would have stayed.
