Re: What should I do...if anything? (long)

  • WOW. That is pretty crazy. If she's really a good friend I would have a serious heart to heart with her, and yes tell her you know about the texts. If she denies it, ask her to see her phone (would she be sneaky enough to delete them?). If she has nothing to hide she should be able to show you, right?

I think whether you talk to her or not depends on the strength of your friendship. Do you see maintaining a relationship with her even with this crazy behavior? I can't imagine if her behavior is like this now, how is it going to get better if she doesn't see anything wrong with it? I don't know if I would enjoy spending time with her knowing the behind the scenes behavior. Good luck making your decision, that is a hard one!

  • I think you should talk to her then if you've known her so long. I had a friend from elementary school-college (my BEST friend esp from 6th-10th grade) who didn't approach me about something I was doing until she wrote me a letter before leaving the place we worked together telling me people were talking about me behind my back. I didn't see her for a couple years and I had huge resentment that she didn't talk to me about it earlier. I would hope your friend would see the error in judgement at some point, and it's better to have your friend talk to you about it than find out later you thought she was acting crazy and didn't say anything.

And yes that would have been smart for the judge to order her to have counselling. . . I'm sure this situation is tough for her. Does she take any meds or drink excessively that would create some of this behavior? (I'm asking b/c my almost former aunt has that problem so I know from hearing about their exchanges that can have an effect)

  • One last edit.

  • I think it would be good to talk to your other friend about this, and even if you talked to her separately, then she would see it's not just one person who is seeing this behavior and is concerned about her. This is tough stuff, but if she doesn't get help from her local friends nothing will probably change with her behavior.
