I have a positive story about a child. (I'm shocked too)

On Tuesday, I took my gimpy, cane-carrying ass on the subway to meet my friend for drinks.  The train door opened, and the girl next to me kind of sped past me and took the only open seat.  I looked around, and kind of resigned myself to standing because a lot of people get off at the next stop.

Then I hear this little voice say, "Ma'am?"  And I looked down and this little girl got up to let me sit down.  I thanked her and told her that was really nice.  She and her grandma (I'm assuming) got off at the next stop, so I thanked her again and looked up at grandma, who was just smiled proudly and nodded at me.

Now, that is how kids should behave!  It melted my icy heart a little.  ha

  • I was expecting this to end with, "and then I punted her down the stairs."

  • That was very sweet!   It's nice to know some kids out there are still polite and considerate!

When I told my friend this story, she started telling me that she's going to be afraid to have her (future) kids around me because I'll flip out if they misbehave.  I was like, well then make sure they know not to be little a-holes!

Trust me, this in no way colors my opinion of children in general.  That's why I thought the story was worth telling...because I see way more little punk ass brats than I do nice kids.  ;)

  • Aw, what a sweetie!!

Hey, is it true that most people on the subway are azzholes? My BIL moved there last summer to go to some acting school and said something funny happened on the subway one day. He let a lady pass through first and said "hello" to her. She stopped and stared at him, then said, "You must be from the South!", to which he replied, "Is it my accent?" She said, "No, it's just that no one speaks to each other here unless they're from somewhere else, especially the South."

BIL says that most people keep their heads down and don't talk when out and about.

    Is this true?

  • Aw, that is super cute.  There was a little boy on Celebrity Apprentice that was rewarded his "Make a Wish" and he melted my icy cold heart also.
  • Awe! I love polite children! It makes me feel like walking up to their parents (or grandparent) and skaking their hand for raising such a well-manored kid!

Yes, especially in the morning.  Nobody talks unless they are with someone they know.  Most people have their ipods in to avoid conversation.  I will even leave my sunglasses on the entire ride sometimes.  The most contact I usually have with people on the subway is either like she said, out of towners asking questions or making conversation, or exchanging looks with other passengers when there's some freakshow making a scene.

That being said, I don't think that is azzhole behavior at all!  The cab driver I had last night was saying how everybody here is always in a rush, but that's expected because it's NYC, not "one of the southern states...ya know, the slow states."  LOL

He was cute! I'm pretty sure he didn't know WTF was going on, though.

Yes This! It's nice to see that some parents still teach their children manners and politeness!

  • More kids should be like that little girl! You just have to train them right.
  • You know what? That warmed my heart.

  • That's very sweet, it just proves that with the proper parenting, children can behave.

The missing key usually is the proper parenting!

  • What?!? A kids with manners? I'm shocked

actually, I'm proud to say that my ss is raised to not be a selfish @sshole as well
