how far would you drive for a race without staying overnight? ETA clicky!
How far would you go to race and not stay overnight? I'm considering a half 3 hours away but I really don't have time or flexibility to make a weekend out of it. What's your driving limit?
I think I would do two hours, no problem, I think 4 hours is too far. 3 Hours seems to be the turning point for me. could go either way. WWYD?

Re: how far would you drive for a race without staying overnight? ETA clicky!
What time does the race start? That would be a huge factor for me.
I've also done the very much extreme of playing in a field hockey tournament and then hopping in a car as soon as it was done and driving 7 hours back to my apartment. I couldn't walk for the next day, I was so sore.
Start time might be a factor in my decision too. And how "good" the race is.
If you don't know anything about said half, I would probably balance my performance-to-driving ratio. I probably wouldn't want to be in the car longer than what I was expected to run.
that is 6 hours in the car, it is way too long for me.
lets say the race starts at 8. i would need to leave at 4 to get their early enough to warm up, pee, settle in and account for traffic or anything else that can make the 3 hours longer. that means i would need to wake up at 33am to get ready.
By 8am, i would be so tired!
3 hours is way too long for me. You may as well find a race closer to home. If it's 3 hours a way I would spend the night and leave as soon as the race is over.
2 hours is my limit, and even then i'm griping about it.
I usually either stay w/ a friend (hiii pinkwillow) or get a room w/ another friend that races with us. If i can't find anyone to stay w/ me, or if Pinkwillow isn't running then I suck it up and make the drive.
Could you stay the night before, and come home after the race?
I did this last year, the race started at 7am, I laid in the back of the van all the way home.
Depends on the race. If I'm doing a half-IM, I would not drive more than an hour and a half, assuming I don't have to be there the night before. For an Olympic, I probably wouldn't drive more than a couple of hours when there are lots of races locally that I can do.
