My husband and I are going to Italy for our 1 year anniversary and I was just wondering in anyone has a recommendation for hotels in Rome and Venice or Florence or Tuscany. We would really like something smaller and not a major chain of hotels. THANKS!!
Re: Hotels in Italy
I have reviews in my blog on the places we stayed in Rome and Florence this last September. I will be posting a review this weekend on my blog for our accomodation in Venice. We stayed at Gio and Gio Bed and Breakfast, which I highly recommend. At 135 Euro per night (including breakfast) I found it to be a great value in expensive Venice.
ok some are under. i'll not post the ones that are over that.
in florence i've stayed at the grand hotel cavour a few times (last time 3 weeks ago). excellent location, good price, great breakfast and superb rooftop wine bar with an incredible view.
in rome i just stayed here 3 weeks ago as well. albergo del senato which overlooks the pantheon and square. outstanding. very good location-right in the middle.
in tuscany i stayed at the palazzo leopoldo in radda in chianti (as the name suggests it's in the chianti region of tuscany) and it was great. we stayed for a week and took day trips to other towns. very good.
i've only been in the winter and in the fall (late sept early october). if you go during may-early sept the prices are much higher so they might top your 250 a night budget.
Venice- Casa Rezzonico http://www.casarezzonico.it/booking.asp
Florence- The Hotel Hermitage http://www.hermitagehotel.com/
Rome- I found this awesome place on www.vrbo.com

We spent 17 nights in Italy a few years ago, mostly in Umbria and southern Tuscany. We had an amazing time (mostly based around food and wine). Here is my blog of the trip:

Adventures of A Girl and Her Apron
Florence: Hotel Hermitage on the Arno River - great location and the roof top terrace is awesome for breakfast and afternoon cocktails!
Tuscany - Casa Cornacchi (www.cornacchi.com) and in Siena - Hotel Santa Caterina.
Venice: years ago we stayed at Antica Locanda Venezia - it's a B&B type hotel in San Marco. Nice roof top terrace there too. Good location.
In Rome this last time we stayed at Navona Gallery Suites - the room was filled with antiques. The owner has an antique shop. It was the BEST location too! Tons of cafes right outside your door and only 1 min to Piazza Navona which was always hopping at night. We have been to Rome three times and we loved this location the most.
None of these places were chain types...all had a very Italian feel and a B&B type feel.
