BWOlderLO: Baby Monitors

Do you still use yours when LO is sleeping?

I'm torn, we still use it but sometimes (like this morning!) I wish we didn't.  She often talks quietly in the early morning and wakes us up.  I could do without hearing all the blah blah blah and would just rather hear when she's really up and loudly proclaiming "Mama!".

Thing is, I have slept through her crying and saying Mama! with the monitor ON so I am kind of afraid to ditch it all together.

 What do you all do?

Re: BWOlderLO: Baby Monitors

  • We still use ours, and I can't imagine ditching it at this point. I just like to know I can hear her if needed (which is pretty much never).

When she babbles and/or whines too early in the morning (like, it's not time to get up yet!), I will admit to turning the monitor down so I can continue sleeping for a little longer. She almost always falls back to sleep herself until our normal wakeup time (7-7:30).

  • We stopped using ours around 5 months. Our rooms share a wall, so it's not like we can't hear when she's up. Plus, Alex has never been content to just hang around in her bed (or crib when she was smaller). When she is awake, she is screaming.
  • We have ours on but turned totally down so we only see the lights and can judge by how many bars if she really needs us. I have so far woken up when she is screaming crying.

That's what I did this morning, but the damage was already done, I was UP.   Blah! Thing is, we have a "no getting up before 7" rule but often is she's up that early talking (or asking for her binkie like today) she does not fall back to sleep.  Sigh.

  • We don't use ours anymore. I am an extremely light sleeper/insomniac, so if they wake up at all during the night I always hear them. I also make sure I wake up early so that I am awake before them so I haven't needed it. Plus, they both are pretty loud when they are ready to get up, there is no quiet talking since they share a room haha.
  • We stopped using a monitor for Taryn quite some time ago, shortly after we converted her crib to a toddler bed and she was able to climb out of it and come get  us lol. Probably somwhere between 14-18 months.

  • We've never used the one we got. However, our house is tiny, and I'm a light sleeper.

  • I guess I just never got that light-sleeping-mama gene.  Jim came home from work one weekend afternoon to Jane talking and fussing very loudly, her door closed, OUR door closed and me absolutely sound asleep.

He got her up and was watching her and then when I woke from my coma, I mean nap, I saw how much time had elapsed and then saw her door open and her gone and kinda freaked until Jim was liek "we're down here...."

So, yea, maybe I shouldn't give it up, lol!

I would love this problem!! I wake up at the slightest squeek, even ones that don't require me getting out of bed. Last night Z was up 5 times just to chat, (at 2:30 AM he wanted to take a bath, seriously, he asked from his room into ours) it would have been so nice to just sleep through that instead of tossing back, "kid, go back to sleeeeeep, it's still night night time."

It irritated the ever loving crap out of me during the infant months, Mike could sleep through anything.

  • Nope.  We only have the sound one and the twins are so loud we can hear when they are awake, or rather we can feel them and hear them bouncing around in their cribs!!  I did use it during the summer when I was in the backyard with Abby and the twins were napping.  That's probably the last time.
