So last Friday I get a bill in the mail from my gynocologist for $150, for the injections that I get every three months for my depo (birth control) shot. I have never paid out of pocket for this, and the charges go back to March of last year.
I pay at the pharmacy for the medication, take it there, and get an injection. So this fee was for the actual lab time to do the injection which is all of 5 minutes.
I called them because I have two insurances and I was concerned that they didn't submit to both. I found out that my secondary insurance has decided that they don't cover contraceptives and therefore, took back all of their money from last year. They don't even have the decency to tell me this, the doctor's office tells me. She also says she is advising patients to call the insurance company because its unfair that I should be responsible for their error.
So I call because I think its BS. I am told that I was notified through an explanation of benefits (which I said doesn't explain anything and she said its CALLED and EXPLANATION), I was also told it wasn't their error because they don't cover contraceptive (even though it was because they DID and now they changed their policy and made it retroactive), and I was also told they couldnt tell me what else they may be retracting payment for that I would just have to "wait and see".
Last night, I get home to 8 EOBs from my primary insurance with all this wacky crap, also for my gynocologist. I call them today and they also couldnt give me a straight answer, just that "adjustments were made" all the way back into March 2010.
I end up calling my Dr's office and they explain to me that my primary insurance decided that because I was seeing a nurse practitioner, they didnt want to pay the same amount for her as a regular doctor. So they took back all of their money for every visit I have had with her through 2010 (which has been A LOT) and they will re-issue a lesser amount. I'm not responsible for this thankfully.
I just don't understand how they can do this! Apparently, the secondary insurance (which I've only had since 1/1/11) is taking back payments for as far back as 10 years and making people pay for them! And the billing person at the doctor's office told me that I can also expect a bill from the pharmacy because I paid a reduce prescription fee and the insurance is now recollecting that as well.
Apparently, they just want everyone to have six kids running around. And also they apparently have no conscience.
Re: I'm gonna complain, ok?
Whaaaaaat the F?!?! That cannot be legal. Mary? Any other law experts? Seriously, how is that okay?!
I'm sorry friend, that's so stupid.
That sucks a lot, I'm sorry.
re: the NP thing, that is beyond normal, in fact I'm surprised they were reimbursing at the same level as the doctor before. My copay is the same but my insurance is less for the visits where I just see a NP, like, when I was getting those Lupron depos... I thought that was annoying.
Stand up for something you believe in.
Stand up for something you believe in.
That's exactly what I said! This just reeks of political bull$hit and it makes me sick...
