Where does your state rank?
California is number 18... I imagine we lose points for cost of living and smog (if that's a factor?).

Re: Happiest/Unhappiest States
Kentuck was ranked 2nd lowest well-being.
NJ ranked 30.
I think it's really odd what they base these rankings on. Any area that has a high population coupled with a high poverty rate is automatically going to rank lower.

lol... I could TOTALLY live in Hawaii if I lived there with a spouse or family, ahhhh...
I truly love living in Southern California but it's b/c weather has a big effect on me. I seriously have issues if it's cloudy for too long so I think for me, I'd have to live somewhere sunny a lot... but LA is NOT a happy place, lol... fun to visit and go to for events and stuff, but NOT to live. I live in the South Bay area of LA county, southwest of the city of Los Angeles and it's really nice here but still seriously crowded... That combined with the smog and high cost of living... but you can't judge an entire "state..." there are parts of Cali that I would HATE to live in and parts that would be AMAZING... so I prefer the "best city" articles.
Yeah, I saw that, but I wasn't sure that meant happy. I was thinking there was some other poll where they actually asked people if they were happy in KY. Because that would probably be a different answer.
It was based on a combination of factors, partly about people answering survey questions if they experience happiness, how often, etc...
I have known people who love a state and other people from the same state who say they hate it... though I never met anyone who hated Hawaii... they just said it was expensive to live and expensive to travel to the states... Also, people in Texas seem to love Texas....
This is exactly why my parents moved from Glendale to Ventura County 30 years ago! We love living out here - it's not nearly as crowded, but we can get into the city whenever we need to for a show, work, etc.
