This is really for moms with older babies/toddlers.
Did you kids stay on their curve? We've been pretty stable (I think I will weight/measure them tonight since our next pedi visit isn't until 9 mo). There's so much good winter stuff on sale right now and I am so tempted to pick up some things for next year. Our hand me downs are trickling off and we only have a handful of things in 12 mo (maybe half a dozen outfits, tops, from a friend of a friend's triplets). I know there's always sales, etc, but it gets expensive to buy everything in double (and I've been spoiled this far. We have a LOT of clothes...probably 25% gifts, 10% I've bought, and the rest hand me downs from the triplets I've never met and a cousin who had handmedowns from her neighbor as well!).
bonus: wtf is up with the 6-12 mo sizes at Gymboree etc? My MIL just sent us a couple of things she got at the consignmnet shop and a) they're enormous and b) I don't know if I should put them w/ 9 mo or 12 mo clothes.

2012 Reading Challenge
I really have no answer for you. Levi has always been at the small end of clothes. At 3 months he was still wearing newborn clothes. He is almost 23 months and still in 18 month clothes. Long sleeved shirts are starting to be to short in the arms, but his 18 month pants have to be rolled at the waist or on the smallest hole in the adjustable waists. He outgrows everything height wise, never width wise.
I rarely buy clothing too far ahead, unless it's jammies. I'm just now starting to pick up 24 month stuff for him. However, my MIL is always shopping the sales at Bon Ton and JCPenney...I hang the stuff in his closet and try to get it on him, but sometimes the seasons don't match up.
As far as Gymboree: I *LOVED* the 6-12 month size from there and Old Navy. Levi had a pair of brown cordoroy bibs that he wore all winter. I got the most wear out of that size than anything else. I picked up a few 18-24 month sized stuff from a consignment shop. That size I'm not at thrilled about.
I love our Carters stuff. I'd guess 85% of the stuff we have is Carters (or one of their off lines that come in 3-6, etc).
The 6-12 onsies my MIL bought are really cute. I probably should compare them to the 9 and 12 mo stuff and see what they're closest to.
I read somewhere that they slow down in growth around now, so I probably shouldn't buy anything ahead, but it is so tempting hah. They've been moving up more or less on the month of their age (eg, I pulled out the 6 mo stuff just around a month ago...Quinn still fits into 3 mo pants but she suffers in 6 mo because I don't want to have multiple sizes around).
Mariela has been on the 10th% curve since shortly before a year old, she was 20-25% before that. I've heard a lot of moms with BF babies had LOs who dropped a curve towards a year old and then just maintained that curve and M is no different. Her 12 month clothes lasted awhile and started to fit her right around a year old even on the lower growth curve. She started to fit into 18 month clothes around the same time and we just swapped her to 24m and 2T last month. Some of the 24m stuff won't fit her soon. This is all for onesies and shirts.
For dresses, she needs a size higher due to her height. If I get her a 2T dress it would look like a mini on her, so we have to get a 3T and deal with it being a little big up top.
For pants, she can still fit in 18 mo in the waist (most brands) pretty comfortably, but she's starting to look like she has high waters on. I've started putting her in 24 mo size pants, but the waists are huge. I've heard 2T size pants are made slimmer (to accomodate panties vs a full diaper), but haven't tried them yet. I had to have my MIL take in her 24 mo size pants. We had to do the same thing when she turned 18 months. She outgrew the 12 mo in length before she did the waist, so MIL helped me put darts and hem the waist until they fit. Once she grew into the waist, I took the darts out. We'll probably be doing this until she hits puberty and actually grows a butt or I find a belt she'll wear.
Levi has to wear a belt with most of his jeans. Unless they have the adjustable waist, and there's a pair of those that need a belt.
I got a 2 pack of belts from WalMart, but I haven't been able to find them anywhere else.
ugh.this worries me. chris was a pin thin kid and so far the babies are following suit. Their diapers very literally hold up their pants...
Tubba Wubba has always been the size of a tank, and he's thinned out *some* but he's pretty much on that curve. At 17 mos, he's wearing 24 mos or 2T jammies (they are a touch long but work). For summer? i'm buying 2-3T.
I love my spicey meatball. LOL!
I have to go down a size if we don't have CDs on so she'll wear 3mo pants in disposables. I have no idea how we'll buy clothes ahead.
For weight-Lucy went from like 80% at birth all the way down to 5% at 1yr/15mo now she is at 50% at 2 yrs
But for height she's always been 80-90% so she was in bigger clothes earlier because she was so tall...so it is hard to say.
I'd say you'd be safe to pick up SOME 18mo stuff now for them for next winter
I have decided the only clothes I will buy in advance anymore are 3T and larger. My 20 month old is still in 12 month. I'm about to switch to 18 mo jammies because of the length. I imagine (unless she hits a major growth spurt) she will be in 12 month for a few more months. Some shirts are still too big.
Sorry I realize I am no help at all.
