Road trip from Washington State to Little Rock AFB

Hi ladies! I hope y'all are having a good day. I can't really sleep so I thought I would post something on here. I guess it's because I'm a little stressed out, nervous and excited. So anyways, DH and I are moving to Little Rock AFB in a few days.. AHHHH! It's a little overwhelming to me because I have never done this before. My husband is rather excited about this because we will be a lot closer to my in laws.. Well, 6 hour drive is not bad at all compare to flying all day and expensive plane tickets. We already hired a movers so we don't have to drive a U-haul with us(THANK GOODNESS). However, we are taking both of our cars.

So, my question is, has anyone done this before? Do you have any road trip tips and route suggestions? We would like to avoid the snow as much as possible so route recommendation would be great. And we are planning to visit a friend that lives in Tucson, AZ.

Thanks, ladies. And have a great day. Smile

Re: Road trip from Washington State to Little Rock AFB

  • I can somewhat understand your excitement.  My dad was in the Air Force and we moved a few times, our biggest being across country when I was 11 - two cars, two cats, two kids. Back then before cell phones, my parents used CB radios to communicate... for you two, I suggest walkie talkies.  They work great while driving one behind the other!  Back in the day, without the internet, we found hotels to stop at using the AAA books.  I suggest you don't plan your hotels too much in advance - be flexible.  I think AAA website has a free route map that might highlight any "can't miss" attraction along your route.  For example, on our cross country trip, my parents made sure we stopped at the 4 corners (where UT, CO, AZ, and NM meet).  We also stopped in St. Louis to see friends and go up the Arch.  Sounds like you should make sure to stop at the Grand Canyon at least.

Take advantage of the chance to see some real gems.  Don't push yourself to drive too much in any one day.

    Enjoy the journey!
