A serious (and hopefully non-offensive) thread

I have a question. There's a blind guy who lives in my apartment and he has a dog. There's also a woman I see pretty frequently near work with a seeing eye dog.

How do blind people pick up their dog's poop?

I'm really curious. Are they allowed to just leave it? Do they have to feel around for it? SOMEONE TELL ME!!!

Re: A serious (and hopefully non-offensive) thread

  • I've been around a lot of seeing-eye dogs and you know what? I've never seen one stop to poop while on the job. I have no idea but I would assume they just leave it. Tongue Tied

  • I'm willing to give them a pass, but seriously there are so many azzholes who can see perfectly fine and don't pick it up.

I always yell, "That's going to our drinking water when it rains azzhole!"

  • But, but . . . I mean, they have to poop at some point, right?!
  • I think the dog just picks it up for them. They are working dogs.

  • hmmm, i've never thought of this before. i would assume they just leave it?
  • Part of a seeing eye dog's training is to hold their pee & poop for like, forever.  I think usually they use either a piddle pad in a specific location in an apartment so their owner can just pickup a pad, or an outside area where they can just leave it.

My grandma got a few labs who were rejected from the program for one reason or another, heh.

  • By an outside area, I mean when you live outside of city limits and it's on your own property.

This is the best answer ever. Thank you.

  • The word "piddle" always makes me giggle.

Heh. You can use that in one of your songs if you'd like, Smock.

And I am picturing a dog shaking a baggie open with its mouth, pawing the poop in and tossing it in a garbage can. Awesome. I wonder if my dog is smart enough for this...

But this is actually an interesting question.

  • I HAVE AN ANSWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited that I know this. Thank you Animal Planet! During training, the dog's person is taught to feel the shape of the dog's back when he/she signals that it's potty time. A hunched back means it's poopy time, and the person feels down to the tail and then picks up the pile directly beneath. The dog is also trained to allow this to occur during potty time.

  • Bowies for the win.
  • Thanks Bowies! Now I'm going to have to stalk some blind people because I'd love to see how that works. What if you reach down too fast and get dood on your hand?!

  • Oh, but in my mind I'm going to stick with this:

Then you wipe it on the dog.

Seriously though, they don't pick it up until the dog changes stance.

    Ahahahahaha.

  • I guess my dog would be disqualified, since every once in a while she eats hair, which causes her doods to trail out of her butt like links of sausage, and I have to chase her around with a bag to pull them off.

    LOL!

I'm sure they wrap the baggie around their hands like the rest of us do.

This also happens with my dogs, but they'd be disqualified anyways for general stupidity.
