We were there for 5 days (Thursday to Tuesday). What a beautiful city! Thanks to the girls who gave me all the fab recs. The Paradise Point resort was really nice, glad we went with it, they upgraded us to a beach bungalow which was awesome. Great location on Mission Bay, easy to get around to places. The weather was nice for the first few days, but then on Sunday, whoa, cloudy and chilly - that sure wasn't in the forecast ![]()
Things we did, where we went:
- Whale & Dolphin watching tour with Seaforth; 3 hours was a little long, I literally fell asleep in the galley, but we did see a couple whales and hoardes of beautiful dolphins, they were following our boat! great staff on board.
- San Diego Zoo; beautiful beautiful zoo, loved it. Got a workout in too with the miles of walking it took to see everything, wow, next time I'm wearing hiking boots... oh, and finding parking was ridic!
- SeaWorld; really cool shark habitat and loved the penguins, the pet show was super cute too. Great place for the kiddies or the kiddies at heart.
- Coronado; gorgeous huge white sand beach, and the Hotel Del is stunning!
- La Jolla; beautiful area, great shops.
- Fashion Valley Mall; can I just say I want to move to San Diego just to go to this mall?? Actually, I want to live AT this mall, seriously... ![]()
Where we ate:
- Barefoot Bar & Grill (at the resort); beautiful patio right on the water, great food but a little pricey.
- The Broken Yolk (Point Loma); excellent breakfast, long wait though on Sunday.
- Los Panchitos (Point Loma); some of the BEST Mexican food I've ever had, the carne asada soft tacos and garlic shrimp were amazing! and super cheap, wow.
- The Menu (Pacific Beach); great little place, had a huge affordable yummy breakfast there, very friendly staff.
- The Landing Grille (Mission Bay); had lunch there right before our whale watching tour, it was good, but not great.
- Yummy Sushi (Coronado); just like the name says, it was yummy! very extensive menu too.
Also ate a couple times at the Cheesecake Factory which is always good, and tried Joe's Crab Shack which was a big fail, very poor quality for lotsa $

Re: San Diego was awesome! Reviews & Pics...
Thanks missy
You're welcome, lucky you, I want to go back already!
SD is on our travel bucket list. I don't understand why we haven't made it there yet?!?! It is a PITA to fly to from PIT though. Great pics, glad you had fun!
PS- Cheesecake Factory I totally get (my favorite chain) but Joe's Crab... yikes!!
You know what bal? I don't understand why we didn't get there sooner actually, it's only a 2+ hr flight from here and it totally rocks, I had know idea it's so beautiful there, kinda tropical in some areas, and gorgeous beaches!
p.s. Didn't get the 411 on Joe's Crack Shack or we wouldn't have tried it...lol.
so glad that you loved SD! you'll love the downtown area as well for next time you go.
sorry you didn't get the info on Joe's!
I went to Santa Barbara once and visited my wealthy aunt and uncle (I say this as it lends to the story). they wanted to take me to this great crab place right on the beach that my uncle loved! I was so excited for fresh on the beach crab! yeah.... Joe's crab shack
boo
Oh I love SD! I miss it! I've been once last march and I didn't want to leave! We stayed in the gas lamp district, a block up from broken yolk - which was my favorite breakfast spot.
Thanks for the pictures, they bring back memories! We are from Calgary, so the flight is just over the 3 hr mark but pretty quick none the less and we were just discussing where we want to go next... SD came up but now I have an itch!
Yeah, definitely want to check out the Gaslamp Quarter and other downtown areas next time.
LOL with your crab shack experience
Glad you had a great time. We love SD. We've been 3 times in a year (for medical reasons) and the relaxed vibe, little mexican restaurants/take out stands and genuinely lovely people there make it one of my favourite places in the US.
Next time you go, I really recommend this place: http://www.crabhutsd.com/. It's not Joe's - the food is amazing. It's been our first stop when we arrive in SD since we first discovered it.
Thanks, I'll check it out for sure!
