Dear Community,

Our tech team has launched updates to The Nest today. As a result of these updates, members of the Nest Community will need to change their password in order to continue participating in the community. In addition, The Nest community member's avatars will be replaced with generic default avatars. If you wish to revert to your original avatar, you will need to re-upload it via The Nest.

If you have questions about this, please email help@theknot.com.

Thank you.

Note: This only affects The Nest's community members and will not affect members on The Bump or The Knot.

New Format

The nest is going to change the format of the boards.  It has already taken place on many of the local boards and is going to happen on the national boards soon.  Currently, you might see Twitter and Facebook link buttons--those will be removed from the local boards and will not be put on the national boards.  The feedback from the local boards drove that decision.  So, when the format changes, if you have any feedback you would like me to pass along, just let me know.

Oh, and apparently post counts and badges will remain--but as the transition occurs, there might be times when they are temporarily incorrect (so no freaking out ok!).

Honestly, I have been so swamped that I haven't had a chance to explore the new format.  Everyone is sick at my house, but as you know, life does not stop--good times here at the Justinlove Home.  Ugh.

Re: New Format

  • Sorry to hear your house has turned into an infirmary :(  Hope you're all feeling better soon.

I have so many complaints about the new format:

There is no need to have the post title appear--especially in the existing giant font and format--between every response post.

The time stamps are all off.

When you reply to a message, you no longer see the text of the message you're replying to.  It used to appear above the box where you type your reply and was very helpful if you didn't want to actually quote the OP but wanted to respond to her points.

What's the reasoning behind making you wait before you can make edits to your post?  How does that improve any aspect of the boards?  If I was unclear or made a typo, I want to fix it immediately, just like we could before.

Are we no longer allowed to delete posts?

The My Posts format also sucks now.  First, the font is huge.  Second and more importantly, there's no way of knowing if there are new replies to those posts. At least before you could remember how many responses there last were.

    The new emoticons look terrible.

Why take away the HTML functionality?

Paragraph breaks don't work right and you have to enter two carriage returns to make a break appear when you post.

I'm sure there are more, but those are the ones I remember right now.  In all honestly, I've always really quite liked the current format (the one still on the national boards), even in the beginning when you first switched it over.  This is not a case of not liking change.  The new format on the local boards is just bad, both in terms of functionality and design (the page is hard on the eyes and so hard to look at).

Thank you for getting rid of the FB/Twitter links, but really there are so many other things wrong with the new design.

I clearly have too much time on my hands (or I don't do enough work, but let's go with the former Wink).

  • First of all love the new siggy.

I am glad they took out the FB and twitter as I do not like that. I took out all my siggy's because of that and I don't think I am going to add them back right now.

I haven't explored the new format because I just don't have the time right now.

  • Thank you so much for this post, it is the most concise straight-forward post about the new changes. And thank goodness they are removing the Facebook/twitter feeds.  I like the "anonymity" of these boards (or that we can share as much as we want)!

  • In addition to RnV's list...

When you are on your local board, the left side shows the other local boards.  Why would I want to jump to those?  I'd rather see the national boards.  Oh, and the little blue arrow that should show you the national boards doesn't work.

I don't like how few posts are on a page.  Both on the main board page and on the individual post with replies.
