Family friendly vacation ideas

We are trying to plan our family vacation for the year, but there are too many choices and I am overwhelmed. It will be DH (29), myself (27) and our 2.5 year old. I also just found out I am pregnant again (still very early, not due until October) so that makes things a little more difficult to plan around. We normally travel in the off season, but don't think that is going to be an option this year. We are looking at going sometime between late May and early September.

We enjoy sight-seeing, kid-friendly activities, etc. My husband is a huge sports nut so we are always open to taking in a baseball game or the such, but isn't a requirement. Our budget is in the $2000-$3000 range for a week.

Our past vacations include San Diego, Disney World/Orlando/Universal, Smokey Mountains, a Caribbean cruise, and weekends in San Antonio, Dallas, Baltimore/D.C., and Nashville.

We live in Houston and don't really have a preference of driving vs. flying, just depends on where we are going! Thanks for all of your help!

Re: Family friendly vacation ideas

  • We have twins that are the same age as your child and we decided on Virginia Beach this summer.  Basically the reason is the reviews on a clean boardwalk with lots to do along it with kids (and not a cheesy boardwalk like other places I"ve read about).  We have been to several countries and all over the US but traveling with toddler twins is getting more difficult!  We wanted beach, historical, shopping, with activities for the kids. The most we've explored on the Atlantic side are Florida beaches which I enjoy in certain areas (I probably likke the gulf side better though). We also have been to Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head, didn't love either place though for various reasons.

Once they are completely potty trained I look forward to heading back to the caribbean to a family resort and/or a cruise with the kids.  I have no idea what this has to do with potty training but for some reason that's where I'm at!

  • Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Seattle, New Orleans for sightseeing, sporting events and kid's activities. Martha's Vineyard, Cape Cod, Outer Banks for more beachy relaxation.
  • Canada? Montreal/quebec? Niagara is fun, the casinos might be an option too.

Vegas?  kids love all the moving stuff in vegas.

Or New York, kids love central park, the Bronzx zoo
